Who likes this crap! I am tired of people talking isht about a game that they have no understanding of. I just found this site and I find it highly offensive, because Soccer, is a world sport. Yes, I was born in the US, and don't understand why Soccer is always bashed. Maybe I am in the minoritu? In other news, looks like they are having a gambling scandal just as bad as ours. BTW, I hate bloggers. Bloggers, do you do this for your own personal satisfaction? Thanks for hearing me rant.
DD, Serious. I wonder if its because its a US ego centric thing. What's funny is that when the last world cup happened, I noticed that people who don't even know the fact that soccer is called football everywhere else kept on talking about the Zidane headbutt.
People not liking soccer doesn't really bother me that much, different strokes for different folks and all that, but I don't understand some people's hatred for it. I'm not much of a baseball fan, but I somehow manage to not go into every baseball thread and tell everybody how it sucks, and I've never had the urge to make a website dedicated to it. Some people act like their families were killed and raped by soccer players or something.
I don't know why people hate on other things....especially things they don't understand etc. I for one love soccer, I grew up with it pretty much as the only sport to play.
Americans dont like to be #2 in anything. We are #1 in Basketball, Baseball, and Football. But we are what? #20 in Soccer? and the MLS is light years behind the EPL. Screw that, we are not going to watch scrubs getting owned in every World Cup.
We're #1 in American Football because we're the only one's playing it. We have the greatest basketball talent, for sure, but Team USA hasn't been #1 for quite some time. The MLS is behind every other professional soccer league, but our World Cup team is actually pretty damn good.
I'm a soccer hater and am willing to discuss the reasons why I hate soccer. Off the top of my head, these are the reasons that immediately come to mind. 1) I see barely any team offense. I'm not saying it isn't there. I'm saying I don't see it. I don't see players positioning themselves strategically to send or receveive passes. I don't look at a soccer goal and think, "wow! That was a very strategic move!". All I see is a bunch of guys running around the field. 2) The field is just too big. 3) I don't like games where the ending score can be 1 to 0. That's not exciting to me. I want more offensive success. 4) The players seem to almost never have control of the ball. They few times it seems they have control, it seems that, very quickly, they lose control. Again, this give the appearance of little or no offensive control and littlr or no offensive strategy. 5) Few climaxes. In football you can celebrate a first down or a long run/pass. In basketball, you can celebrate a great dunk. In baseball, you can celebrate a base hit. In soccer you really can only celebrate a goal, and that doesn't happen very often in a game.
I gotta ask have you ever actually played the game, even above 10 and under leagues? I ask this because #1) you say Anyone who's actually watched a match knows that is incorrect. soccer/footy is all about moving around to get yourself in position to receive or send a pass. you rarely see guys stand around or else they'll get yelled at and find themselves on the bench and then out of the team or out of a job as a pro player. What you stated is the exact same crap some of my fellow brits would say about american football, but i know better since i've actually watched more than 1 nfl game and played american football, i know there is "strategery" in where the players are and move on the field. 2) ridiculous, the size of the field should not be a reason to hate a sport. 3)Thats the only legitimate beef i think one can have w/ the sport, but even so, the game isnt about 7-6 and 8 -5 scorelines, the game is like hockey where by a 4-1 game is highscoring. also the game isn't all about scoring, when you learn to appreciate the buildup to a goal scoring opportunity, even if the goal doesn't materialize, then you can appreciate the game regardless of the score. no doubt 0-0 games suck horribly but some are actually entertaining, its just that the teams can't score because the keeper is playing a blinder or having an incredible match. 4)In soccer you can celebrate a goal more so than any of the sports you mention. In basketball a great dunk is like every 5 mins. *****, 1 great dunk can follow another. In american football, same thing, a qb on one team throws a td then on the kickoff return a devin hester could take it all the way back. how long was the celebration on that.
Well said. It's one thing to not enjoy something, it's another to go out of your way to crap on something that doesn't affect you. It's not like soccer games get priority over football games on TV in America.
I hate soccer. It's a communist invention used to corrupt the minds of our young boys in an attempt to prevent them from playing real football. Seriously, what kind of sport doesn't use hands? Soccer and figure skating... that's about it. Pick up the damn ball and run with it! Hit somebody! Get the ball over the line! Oh, wait, we already have that... it's called rugby (or Australian Rules). Heck, even in that soccer on ice Canadians call hockey you're allowed to hit people and you have a modicum of hand-eye coordination. If you want more Americans to watch soccer, have somebody level the next guy that goes up for a bicycle kick or just skip the whole game altogether and go that 5 kick thing that's done at the end of tie games.
I saw Jaqua lay some dude on KC out cold during the semifinal game. There actually are a lot of take downs in soccer. Any sport where you can drill the ball into the other guys face from close range without it being called a penalty or use your freakin' head to score a goal is pretty cool. Plus the fans can bring trumpets and bongos, jump up and down and throw things on the field and not get kicked out of the stadium for it. Try doing that at an Astros game.
I love soccer because of the fans. Supporter groups treat every match like a party by bringing flags, banners, streamers, smoke bombs, and instruments. Have you ever seen an atmosphere like this at a Rockets, Astros, or Texans game? <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/S5g_p74fyfM&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/S5g_p74fyfM&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Whether you like it or not Soccer is growing in this country. I hope that one day we can have the same amount of pride as other countries do about soccer.
