Hillcroft and the SW Freeway, last week. Ticket came in the mail today. $75 schmackers. The money comes in and the money goes right back out again. I think....I think....I think I'll have another drink.....
Have one for me. Sorry about the ticket. Those light cameras are just revenue makers they dont keep anyone safer.
did you know it was a red light camera there? and if you did, do you remember saying to yourself, "oh ****, i think i got busted" at the time? you should take DD instead of just paying it, or hire a traffic lawyer.
Actually, I remember hearing on the news a fews weeks back that statistics show that intersections with cameras become safer after a while. Once people learn there's a camera there, they're much less likely to run it...
That happened to my friend twice, once when I was with him and we saw the flash. I better stop running red lights, but damn only $75? Isn't it like $250-500 if a cop pulls you over? I was taking a final at the testing center at UH. I gave him my school ID and he saw me put my wallet in my bag. I checked out and went to the library to make a copy of something and my wallet was GONE! I know he stole it, and he wasn't there when I checked out. It was a Bank of America bag, so he probably thought my wallet would have a lot of money, only $19. I canceled all the credit cards. Getting a new ID is gonna suck balls. It had to happen during finals week to. I don't trust UH employees anymore. Something similar happened before, and both times they were Asian guys. They workto get their tuition paid off so...
This exact scenario has happened to me 2x. In the back of my mind I knew there was a camera there (I've memorized all of the camera locations near my home - which is crawling with them) - and I still got popped... saw the flash right in my eyes twice in the past 2 weeks with my car's top down But no ticket to date. I think maybe b/c I don't have a front license plate? So no match of the car to me? Just a guess.
Wow...that was a tangent from the original thread. Then again...most Asians at UH are usually more AZN thug.
I'm sure I'll get one sooner or later. Also sure I'll deserve it. What I think sucks is the tickets for rolling stop right turns. That's some serious BS. Evan
i got popped at westheimer and 610 trying to go north on 610 over a month ago. my husband was like "didn't you know there was one there??" I said no but it sounds like you did and it would've been nice if you warned me two seconds earlier. thing is, i run them all the time i guess without even knowing so i really really did deserve it. haven't received it in the mail yet though. maybe it went to my parent's house, i dunno.
Thread is useless without a picture. AT least post the picture taken by the camera so we'll know what kind of card you drive.
Anyone rolling through or "bump stopping" through red lights or stop signs deserve tickets. It is not that difficult (or time consuming) to come to a full and complete stop and make sure no vehicles, bikes, kids, or pedestrians are coming from either direction. I have no sympathy for anyone who gets tickets for that. There have been countless times when I am running and drivers don't even look to their right prior to rolling through a stop sign or red light. They have no idea that I (or others) are approaching from their right. It's simple. When the light is red or there is a stop sign, come to a full and complete stop regardless whether you are going straight or turning.
After initially being opposed to red light cameras in my area, I'm actually starting to be all for them. That's only because I'm so sick of being around other bonehead drivers who are driving without a brain doing anything else but concentrating on driving. Now, I know we all get caught in a yellow or red on occassion but, if these cameras nail the boneheads, then I'm all for it....cause bonehead drivers suck. This doesn't mean to imply the thread starter is a bonehead or any of you who have been "snapped" are boneheads. I deal with bonehead drivers every damn day. They make driving so much worse than it has to be. I personally can't stand it. I really do hate city traffic with a vengeance. A lot of drivers can't follow a few simple rules...like getting out of the faster left lane, driving the actual speed limit and not ten miles under, and just staying in their lane (how hard is that? apparently, very). Their usually jabbing away on cell phones or doing anything else but concentrating on driving.
I have noticed the only times I have ever been in an accident (not even my fault) are times when I am running late for something. Thus I either leave early or purposely drive even slower when running late.
LOL, I thought I had been caught by one too when a couple of weeks back I barely missed the yellow at Bissonet and SW freeway. So yesterday I get one of these in the mail and I'm thinking "great, they did get me." I open it up and I notice that isn't my car in the photo and I realize that the name on the envolope wasn't mine. I recognize the occasional bit of mail coming to previous residents, but this name was a new one. I didn't know what to do so I just threw it away.
My problem with the cameras is that they can't take specific fact patterns into account. The first time I thought I got popped (but no ticket yet <knock><knock>), I was taking driving straight with the light GREEN, but suddenly the guy in front of me braked while I was driving through the intersection. I slammed on my brakes and waited in the middle of the intersection for him to proceed. The light turned yellow 3 seconds later and I decided to move to another lane, and POP! bright flash in my eyes. The letter of the law interpretation that these cameras provide - rather than an analysis of the facts and circumstances could result in my undeservedly getting a red light ticket (again <knock><knock>)
