I have to say this: the Sporting News "Voice of the Fan" site is freaking hilarious. It is worth reading so you can see sheer stupidity like this:

    "Dear Voice of the Fan,

I will say it, Karl Malone and not Michael Jordan, is the greatest basketball player in the history of the NBA. Malone and the Jazz won more games than any other team in the 1990s. Here is another major factor, Malone at power forward gets banged around, hit, pushed, kicked and still delivers 25 to 30 points per night, without ever sitting out as so many of the wimpy NBA players do. Jordan could not and never will have that kind of consistency or toughness. Malone is a victim of his political and social views, a hunter, and living in Utah, in the NBA's smallest city. Malone not Jordan is the most impressive NBA player in basketball history.

    Dale Harapat "

A couple of people responded back to this "fan" (a kind euphemism) by saying:

    "Dear Voice of the Fan,

In response to Dale Harapat's statement that Karl Malone, not Michael Jordan, is the greatest player in NBA history, I have this to say: 1997 NBA Finals, 1998 NBA Finals, game-winning shot. Jordan has six rings; Malone has none. Case closed.

    Ernest Lara
    Mississauga, Ontario

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dear Voice of the Fan,

How can anyone say Karl Malone is better than Michael Jordan? OK, so the Jazz did win the most games in the '90s, but the Bulls didn't have Jordan for three of those years. If you compare the seven years Jordan did play, then the Bulls easily won more games, as well as two NBA titles over Malone's Jazz.

Also, how can someone question Jordan's toughness or consistency? Need I mention his playoff performance when he had the flu, or maybe his numerous NBA All-Defensive team awards? How many does Malone have? If that's not toughness or consistency, I don't know what is.

    Jake Lawrence "

So, if you are ever down and feeling depressed, read the "Voice of the Fan" on TSN website.....guaranteed to cheer you up and give you a laugh!!!

Manny, there might be some truth to what Dale Harapat said.

Remember, MJ played under the greatest coach in the history of the NBA. I am sure if MJ had played under Sloan, his team (MJ) would've had a .500 record.

Even though I dont agree with him, I think the greatest player of all-time is Olajuwon ;), I still think he has an argument.

I consider Malone the top POWER FORWARD of all-time so why couldn't someone say they think he is the best!

I proudly hate him, the Jazzhole but he still is among the G.O.A.T.

Is Malone the greatest of all time?

    No way.

He's top 10, but as far as I'm concerned it's Wilt and then everyone else. I'd put Osccar Robertson ahead of Michael.

Now Manny is it as funny as this item that was posted by your friend SF3Rocket on the Jazz board last month?

    Now that is hilarious.

Any coincidence the Rockets haven't won since that was posted? I don't think so.

BTW how is life at the bottom of the Western Confrence?

 Any coincidence the Rockets have been playing with an injured starting SG Cuttino Mobley and without All-Star PG Steve Francis, starting PF Maurice Taylor and starting SF Glen Rice that entire time? Hey, and you know what is REALLY funny about that! The Rockets are still only 5.5 games behind your old, talent depleted Jazz, and 6 games back of the 8th seed. How about you come back here and talk **** once Francis comes back? Or maybe in a few years once we are contending for a title with Francis, Mobley and future star Eddie Griffin, while Karl Malone and Stockton retire without rings?

SteveFrancis3 said things pretty well, but I want to add this:

I posted that letter because I think it's funny that someone would honestly think that Karl Malone is better than Michael Jordan, Shaq, Larry Bird, Magic, Oscar Robertson, etc. as the greatest player of all-time! It's funny but all the guys that I named have at least one ring to their credit while Malone doesn't it.

In your defense, you did agree with me that Malone is not the greatest player ever, but instead of telling me why (it's obvious why), you have to take some potshots at the Rockets. That's alright. I'm sure that you are hoping that Francis and company are still injured when they play the Jazzholes.

Any coincidence that a Jazz fan can't spell conference? I don't think so.

Please, Jazz fan. Our team may be no good right now, but even you must admit that we have SOME future on the horizon with our good, young players. The Jazz are struggling to maintain a .500 record this season, and with the Clippers finally playing close to their talent level, that means no playoffs, and an end to that vaunted streak of playoff years.

Laugh all you want now, because we KNOW we will be the ones laughing for years to come.

Okay, JazzFan, break Malone's legs, injure both of Flopton's ankles, take out Bryon Russell, throw Kirilenko out of a window and see how well you'd do, punk.

lol I didn't realize you were all so sensitive here. You have to admit the loss of Francis and company doesn't explain 15 loses in a row, but when the @#*$ hits the fan in Houston it really hits the fan. Not only do you have injuries, but DWI arrests and league suspensions too.

I agree Houston does have a bright future as long as management doesn't repeat some of the strange moves that were made this past off-season.

Not wanting to commit several years to Hakeem was somewhat understandable (although I think he deserved to go out on his own terms). But then bringing in broken down Glen Rice who has 2 more years after this season (at 9+ million per season), and Kevin Willis who is almost as old as Hakeem doesn't make any sense.

BTW spelling smack is as weak as it gets.

LOL! Boy, do the wolves smell blood or what?!

The only "greatest" label that can be placed on Karla are knockouts. Those 'bows are still lethal, after all of these years.

Oh, flopping would also apply, but his buddy Storkton has that one sewn up.

And what being charged with statatury (sp?) rape of a 15 year-old (let me say it again, 15 year-old) girl is a good thing, Mr. Stevenson?

I want to say a bunch of things about Utah and its people, but I know Clutch will ban me if I say it. Then Achebe will come and rant about how Utah is great!

Like Chuck04 said statutory rape is nothing to brag about and the loss of Francis, Mobley, and others can constitue a lengthy losing streak, look what happened to the Bulls when Michael, Scottie, and Rodman were taken away...went from best record ever to worst team in the league the past couple seasons. Oh yeah the Jazz have something to brag about, 27 years in the league (no title), two of the 50 greatest players of all time on the same team for almost two decades with no title. Bottom line, until the Jazz win a title  then we all really know who's at the bottom of the Western Conference.

I may be in the minority, but Kevin McHale gets my vote for greatest PF in my lifetime.

If McHale would have played on a team as the first option, I think Kevin could have scored 30 points a game. Kevin is one of the finest low post scorers in the history of the game. When he got the ball down low, he was money.

On defense, Kevin was much better than Karl. Kevin has those long arms, and was a very good shotblocker.

As a team player, Malone was no where as good as McHale. Kevin was a superior passer, who made his teammates better.

Screw all that! Barkley was the best PF of all time!

Better yet, Griffin is the best power forward of all time!

    2. Just watch out for Eddie Griffin.

    3. KW is a lot better conditioned than Dream.

    4. The spelling accusation is an inside joke (see hangout forum).
