The fact is we are closer to the Lakers post Shaq trade than the Spurs or Pistons or Heat (who had 2 good runs). We are a franchise who has been wasting (underachieving) despite some of the best individual talents in NBA. People would not pick on us if we were the Utah Jazz, Warriors, Pistons--team thats have probably overachieved in the playoffs from what you would expect from their talent.

Young teams 'overachieve' because speculation is heavily involved; not enough people will predict huge success for a group of new recruits.

It's much less rare that veterans will sneak up on anyone, and most overestimate the impact of star players and underestimate the need for 'team'.

Like someone said, we've accomplished as much as the Lakers since Shaq left town. In fact, we'd probably lose to them in a 7-game series. We have NO RIGHT to talk about respect, and the media has no right to talk about how good we are. Charles Barkley just keepin it real.

    PWN3D! :D

How dare you tinman! You've betrayed the great ones by siding with the enemy. Mad Max (the player, not the poster) is rolling over in his grave!

You have to take what Charles says with a grain of salt. He might have been a all star when he played, but a smart analyst he is not. He tends to be wrong more than he is right. So there's not much he can say that hurts my feeling. IMO he is still sort at Houston for not winning a ring here. Is it our fault that he lost Stockton on the switch to let Stockton to win the series?

is it our fault that we got swept by Seattle by the year before?

without Charles, there would be no Western Conference Finals with the Jazz.

Charles haters need to learn their Rockets history first.

I'd be hardpressed to find one thing Charles Barkley has ever said that isn't stupid or that he doesn't later recant. Charles Barkley contradicts himself more than Thomas Jefferson did. i like the guy, but I stopped listening to him years ago. i suggest ya'al do the same. ignorance (to Chuck) is bliss.

Other than the Laker comment, yeah you were pretty spot on in the truth department.

Well Chuck has played with champions and had team who played against champions deep into the playoffs--so he has a little bit better perspective than you, me, most media and certainly all the current Rockets. :)

I can't think of another team to have two 1st team all star regulars and not get out of the 1st round.

So either Yao and Tmac are quite overrated, our brass has done a terribel job surrounding them with decent pieces, or the coaching staff has done a terrible job of getting them to mesh. Whatever it is yes (or a combination of things), yes we deserve more scrutiny than your average squad.

Ohh, on the Chuckster. He offers his opinions and is supposed to be a color guy not the objective strait guy. He picked the Rockets to beat the Jazz last year in the series. He was wrong. Unlike a lot of sportscaster guys, at least he has fun and admits when he is wrong and takes himself with a grain of salt (the arrogance of SA Smith, Hodge, Salisbury and Bayless and those ilk irk me a lot more). You guys take what other people on the business of offering opinions too seriously, especially guys who themselves don't take themselves that seriously.

Yes he is, as is Kenny Smith--I'd never diminish that in any way. But I'd hardly say they have all this extra insight from their roles on 3 championships between them than a Barkley, Stockton or Malone just because those guys didn't carry their teams to rings in the Jordan/Hakeem eras they ran into.
