Pats didn't assemble this juggernaught by paying top pick slot money. They'll trade down. Maroney gets them over 4 ypc, it's not like that's a concern. They'd much rather add depth to the line and on the defensive side. Samuel may be gone this spring, and the LB corps is about to enter their sunset. Evan
Maroney has been a bit of a bust - he can't run inside or near the goal-line and he's always injured. The burst that he had in college is non-existent and he's not a threat at all to take it to the house. The Patriots basically only run to keep defenses honest, but they'd be that much better if they get get a big play from the run. Darren McFadden would give them that and even give them trick play options if they desired. I don't know if you can pass a talent like him up when he falls in your lap. They can always find quality linebackers in the 2nd-4th rounds.
As others have said McFadden is not going to New England. They need to concentrate on that aging defense. The Dolphins look to have the number one pick, who is going number 1?
Its kinda funny...SF spent so much money on free agency...mix that with their draft...and they still suck.
NE will trade the pick for some team's #1 this year and their #1 next year, that team will draft McFadden, he'll blow out a knee and that team will finish 2-14, giving NE the #1 pick again next year. Meanwhile, they will pick up some Lawrence Taylor protege with the pick they trade down with who will set the rookie sack record. Mark it down.
Having watched every Patriot's game the last two years, Maroney has been a disappointment. 50 year old Corey Dillion out performed Maroney last year and Sammy Morris looked better than Maroney this year. Maroney may still be hurt but who knows with Belichick. Having said that, it would be highly inconsistent for the Pats to use the #2 pick on a running back.
