or, "make it a horrible night", or whatever their slogan is. Anyway, I rented a playstation 2 game for five days, and I did not realize that it had to be turned in by noon on the fifth day. What a joke. noon, what! are you kidding me. I had to pay an addtional $6.48 late fee. I was livid. I thought games were due at midnight on the due date, you know, like other NORMAL places. I got four days with the game intstead of five because I rented it around 11:30 at night. So I got home and called Hollywood Video to ask about their due date policy. Their customers get to turn in anything by midnight. Now, they have a new customer. Wayne Huizenga, you suck!
Also, there's a petition around because Blockbuster apparently doesn't believe in stocking Widescreen DVDs. Sad.
I'm not a big Blockbuster fan, but with all due respect, you are mad at them because you didn't understand their return policy when it is posted all over the store, in all their commercials and even printed on most of their video cases? Try paying attention next time. It's not their fault you didn't read.
Jeff has a point, but I must say, I really do hate that they charge you full price for the game if you turn it in 5 hours late. At Hollywood it is $1 per day, or at least it was the last time I went there (quite a while ago). But oh well, I guess they have their reasons. If the customer knows they have to pay full price, then they will most likely be sure to return the game. At $1 there would probably be a lot of customers thinking "I'm too tired to take this movie back today...Oh what the hell. It's only a $1 late fee if I take it tomorrow. I'll just watch it again."
your right Jeff, that is what I get for not renting more often at BB.(or anywhere for that matter) It had been awhile and, from what I remember the last time I turned in something, the due time was at night. At least Hollywood Video has it right. I expected to pay a one dollar late fee, not another full rental price. That is pathetic. I wake up late anyway, so BB is not for me.
Hell, if you paid the full rental price, you should have told them you would like to just go ahead and keep it for another full rental duration or lose your business.
Since most DVDs are available in Widescreen only, it would be hard for them to not stock widescreen DVDs at all, but I don't know about situations where there's a choice between the widescreen version or full-screen (or crappy) version.
Blockbuster does indeed have a sick obsession with fullscreen, one of the many reasons why I don't rent from them that often.
Actually they will charge a late fee for everyday it is late. I was 3 days late with a movie because of some personal things, and it was 7 bucks. I tried to explain the situation and they would not budge, well I never payed and have never been back since.
The last time I was at Blockbuster, I rented one of their two-day rental movies. I returned it the next day (I'm usually not going to watch a movie twice in two days). The next time I went in to get a movie, they tried to tell me I had a late fee on that last movie. I said bullsh*t, and they wouldn't budge, even after I threatened to never come back. I haven't gone back since. Blockbuster sucks, plain and simple.
Watch out. After a certain time period of not paying a late fee, they take it upon themselves to charge the credit card you used to open the account.
I just recently worked at Blockbuster and I know for a fact that once your video/game is late, their computer system automatically checks it back out to the customer for another full rental period and therefore you are charged the full rental price. To sum it up, Blockbuster doesn't charge you the full rental price just for one late day. You really get to keep it for another couple days.
Another tip: All you have to do is ask for the District Manager's name and contact # and whoever is in charge will have no choice but to waive your late fees (assuming it isn't an outrageous amount) because the managers are told never to let a late fee dispute go that high on the management chain.
I agree with Jeff here. Be accountable for your actions. Period. Don't b**** and don't be sorry for what you choose to do, consciously or sub-consciously. So, you learned an inexpensive lesson. Anyway, didn't Blockbuster extend the return time by 12 hours just to give us a break? RR
Yeah, they tried to pull that on me, but sadly for them, I had cancelled my Amex. he he he. They actually tried to hire a collection agent for $3! I found that hilarious. I called them and said, "You are going to hire a collection agency for a $3 bill???" They said they would and I just laughed. I paid the bill when I rented another movie, but that just cracked me up. My blockbuster isn't bad. The people there are pretty cool, so it doesn't worry me much. It is easier than driving 20 minutes to the closest Hollywood.
Fullscreen is not in the dictionary, therefore I claim a misspelling, and your removal from the contest at once. Please report to the office for expulsion.
I hate their so called - drop off spots , I dropped numerous videos at a local market and Blockbuster seems to never empty the freaking thing so they try to charge me for them .
