That's my sister's favorite restaurant, and I've went there twice on double dates. The atmosphere is great, but I'm not impressed with the food at all.
Crappito's and Maggiano's are damn good. Antonio's Flying Pizza has unfortunately gone downhill in recent years, which sucks because that was my favorite restaurant as a child (besides James Coney Island ). Check out reviews on b4-u-eat.com
But he also goes to Golden Corral buffet As far as the topic at hand. My choice would be Romero's Italian Grill at Barker Cypress and 290. It's a little farther out, but it's damn good.
Well, if you do venture downtown, I would highly recommend Mia Bella...The atmosphere is good and food is even better...
Oh, when several people, including a multi-millionaire recommend the place, I tend to go with their suggestion.
Carmelo's is the best Italian food I've had in Houston. Went there for New Year's last year and it was fantastic! Other people have given the location earlier in the thread. It is pricey though.
Michealangelo's on westheimer and montrose is nice. Good prices and good food. Its also neat that the restaurant is built around the trunk of a tree.
not exactly where you're looking, but prego in the village is fantastic... so is da marco's on westheimer near montrose.
You can't go wrong with Carmelo's! We celebrate everything there. We do have two newer Italian restaurants in our neighborhood that might be good, I just havent made it there yet. Piatto Restorante at Royal Oaks is Crarrabba Family run so, you couldn't go too wrong. And we have a Palazzo's in the new building on the southwest corner of the intersection of Briar Forest and the Beltway 8. The Chicken Parmesagn is $13 and the Filet Mignon with black peppercorn brandy demiglaze is $23 so it's a little pricey ...but not for a date ...and not compared to Carmelo's.
I went to that Piatto once right after it opened and wasn't very impressed. I haven't tried Palazzo's yet. What I really wish they'd put at that corner of Briar Forest and the belt is a freaking gas station! I didn't realize so many of us lived on the west side. We need to meet up for a Rox game at that BW3's one day. I'm up there at least 2 nights a week on average.
We ate at Piatto's last year on New Years Eve. Wholly unimpressed. I wouldn't go back....too many other good options.
And being a multi-millionaire somehow makes one an Italian food expert? Antonio's is top notch for pizza - still love it for that. Not so much for other Italian dishes. And it's definitely NOT romantic. RM, Carmelo's on the far west side is probably your best bet. Actually, Biche? Bicce? or whatever next to Saks in the Galleria (entrance on Westheimer) is pretty damn good.
