Why would Art Briles leave Cougar High for Baylor?

    Hmmmmmmm

Win Conference USA & Play in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl
    Or
Win the Big 12 & Play in BCS Bowl

    No Brainer

Hoss Brock, Cotton Bowl Chairman, described U of H best when he said that "half of the U of H fans will eat at a 7-Eleven and the other half will rob one".

Pretty disrespectful post man. First off, I absolutely hate people using the "Cougar High" moniker. People who use that term don't know s*** about the University of Houston...because it is a damn fine institution. It just happens to be a commuter school which is why it doesn't get the fan support or the coummunity spirit the small town universities enjoy.

Plus, UH does actually have a shot at playing in a BCS bowl if they make it into the top 16 or top 10 in the BCS ranking (see Hawaii, Boise State). As for Baylor, they got an insanely tough road to even think about winning the Big 12, let alone playing in a BCS game.

And lastly, I know the quote isn't yours but you used anyways...I'm a UH fan and alum and I neither eat at 7-eleven or rob one...so take that ignorant bs elsewhere.

Tell your UH brethren to refrain from making posts about basketball players killing each other...

You might have a point if anyone on that team, coaches, Ath Director, hell even the President of the school who were there in 2003 were still around.

Briles has a better chance of getting shot walking around the UH campus than he does a current Baylor basketball player killing him.

I can't speak for others and I'm not going to...but I can tell you that I wouldn't take pot shots at a school because of one incident. And I would expect other's to show the same respect toward mine. I'm so sick of hearing "cougar high" from people who never attended the university and know nothing about the quality of education you can receive there.

I understand Briles leaving, in part. But I just don't understand a coach who leaves his program and his players high and dry before the season is over, when the team has something to play for...it's not even a knock solely against him but the state of coaching in general...foregoing the coach-player relationship for a shot at money and glory....is that what is become these days? Guess so.

And leaving for Baylor at that...which is more of a lateral move than anything else...cause even if he brings the program to respectability, he'll still have a tough shot at winning the Big 12 and going to a BCS.

It won't be that tough if Baylor & Briles can continue to take Cougar High eeerrr The University of Houston's best recruits (see Robert Griffin)!

JYD, I will agree with you about a coach leaving his team before his team has played their bowl, but unfortantely it happens all the time in the NCAA. In fact I wouldn't be surprized if Briles leaves Baylor for a better program if he is able to win at Baylor. I’m sure if U of H had the opportunity to hire a quality D-1 coach from a bowl bound team, Dave Maggard wouldn’t hesitate to hire him before the bowl game.

As far as going to Baylor being lateral move, PLEASE! I admit Baylor has been a horriable football program since Grant Teaff retired. That being said Baylor is in a BCS conference and that alone makes the head coaching job desirable. If the Baylor/U of H coaching jobs were equivalent, U of H wouldn't have to beg 71 year old Jack Pardee to come out of retirement. Did Bill Yeoman turn the job down?

Finally, the "Cougar High" & 7-11 quote. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings.

See I can understand why Briles would want to leave when notions of glory and money come calling. And that's something that's perhaps wrong w/ college football these days...coaches just forgetting about the player relationships they develop.

Baylor may be in a Big 12 conference, but I do see it as a lateral move because of the quality of competition they are facing. Briles can get them back to respectability, but they still could be on the outside looking in at a BCS bowl....that's not any better than UH. In fact UH, given the competition they face in Conference USA would have a slightly better chance perhaps of doing what Hawaii has done this year and reaching a BCS bowl than I think Baylor would have of running the table in the Big 12. But you never know...

UH is hardly begging Pardee to come out of retirement as the guy seems pretty stoked at the possibility of taking over the job...and it's not like UH is looking soley at him.

As for the Cougar High nonsense...I hate, hate, hate that crap...like it pisses me off when people use it  ...but not hate it like it hurts my feelings or anything :p
