According to the article, this has been described as "the worst default security vulnerability in Windows ever". What the flaw allows is someone to attack your pc and do whatever the hell they want on it (in a worst-case scenario). Apparently this is classified as a "Critical" severity for the XP operating system and "Moderate" for 98, 98SE, and ME.

    Here's the story at CNet

Here's a link to the patch

Let's see, XP was out for a couple of months and probably several million bought it. That gave Microsoft enough time to collect data on a whole bunch of information on people through this "security vulnerablitiy".

I ordered a Dell that has yet to be delivered. I'm expecting it around the first of the new year. The patch will be the first thing I download.

I may have Clutch run up to Round Rock to kick some ass. Maybe that'll get my system here a little sooner. :)

Boy, do I feel much safer now that the patch is in place

I just got this computer on Monday, and I'm not really impressed with Windows XP. It has too much of a "cartoon" feel to it. I spent half a day changing all the folder and taskbar "looks" to get back to the more traditional feel of Windows. I also don't care for all the questions about what I want to do with a file or disc. "Hello....Microsoft, I already know what I want to do with this file, that's why it's on my computer!"

Just my two cents for now.

Microsoft will never be able to make everyone happy.

XP isn't any more stable/faster/secure than 2000. It seems actually less stable than 2000 to me.

I don't really care either way for XP. It's all the same too me...

    I love my XBOX though!

Note to Microsoft - More XBOX less XP.
