rick just doesnt have the right players to coach the way he wants, battier, chuck and rafer are great jvg players but we need to package the 3 and get artest
I think Battier is adjusting, he clearly is, he might even get more shots once he works things out. I personally feel his being underated now on the offensive end especially. Once he works out his comfort zone ( which he clearly hasnt) it might be alot better. His role expanded from corner 3's to well, actually has he even been cutting? Im not sure I dont really pay attention to him in games to be honest. The Rudy Gay love is getting quite stupid by the way. Has anyone actually watched him play or are you still stuck on his posterizing dunks. Every one trashes the D of this team, has anyone seen Gay play d recently? the guy has foul trouble worse the Yao and thats without the stupid ass calls Yao gets. Do we really want TWO guys who get fouled out repeatedly. We already got two who constantly struggle with fouls ( Hayes and Yao). And his shot attemps. Look at the Grizzles play. Its like saying the whole Suns team gets more shot attempts then all of us. Same with Stromile, the dude isnt posting up and playing smart basketball when he scores points. His scoring alot in transition running, easy open layups/ dunks that come from all the fast offensive in Memphis. Of course having a decent point guard helps too (Stoudamire, Lowry, Conley Jr). With the exception of Rafer none of your pgs pass exceptionally well. Yes Steve Francis Included. I just dont think all this athleticism translate to anything when you compare players in different systems.
I second that. I didn't even bring up Battier because he's the gentleman of our team, and we traded a huge prospect for him, so trading him away never crossed my mind, but nevertheless, he's really struggling out there. 06-07 .443 3pt 10.1 ppg 07-08 .333 3pt 7.8 ppg That drop might not seem to significant, but when consistently playing mediocre every night, I don't see him climbing back out of hole he's made for himself ThaBlackKnight, you've made some great points It's just, as a fan, there's only so much losing I can take... we can only wait, for now... but...
Nooo... he's great on paper, and he might even have a crazy heart, but I don't like his personal history... to me he'd just end up being another Bonzi Wells type player, or Scottie Pippen-turned-Rockets player
We've lost to Memphis, Kings and barely beat Charlotte but we've beaten Utah, Phoenix, and San Antonio and lost a close one to Dallas. I like this better rather than just beating up on the easy teams and losing to the contenders. This shows more potential playoff success. I think a JVG team would be more consistent and have more predictable results - less upside too...
We could try something a bit more drastic. We could do what the Nets did with Vinsanity "Vince Carter". The Coach had him come off the bench as the sixth man because his teammates were standing around watching him and not getting involved in the offense passing the ball. Sound familiar? Bring T-Mac off the bench and make your other players learn how to play basketball the right way. As long as T-Mac gets his minutes who cares whether he starts or not.
Are you serious? A mentally weak guy like T-Mac will never accept this. There is a reason in saying that the guy plays for his own stats more than for the team and he will never accept to come off the bench. If he coach do this T-Mac may stand by for a while, but then he´ll demand to start again, no matter if we are winning or loosing.
Couldn't have said it better myself. This team reminds me of the '92-93 Rockets team that was on the brink, but needed that extra push before it could be considered real title contenders. Everyone knows we can't go all the way with Rafer, and Scola + Steve might need another season before they are up to speed and playing their best. If everything comes together this season, we can make it to the Western Conference Finals. To make it to the next level, however, we are still probably a year away. Remember, Yao and TMac still have 4-5 prime years left in them, and 2-3 championships in that time would probably make Houston fans more than happy.
Well it does make a certain amount of sense. This is what the NJ coach said before the Philadelphia game about his decision to make Vince Carter the energy guy off the bench. Before the game, Frank explained the decision to bring Carter off the bench. "It's not a demotion," Frank said. "We won three games with him coming off the bench. We've been lacking points off the bench. Coming off the bench, he can be a little fresher, be more of a hub and a focal point and carry more of an offensive burden. It's a game-by-game deal." The Nets were the fresher team, having not played since a 110-103 home loss to Memphis on Tuesday. The 76ers played three times since Tuesday, including an 85-84 win over Washington at home on Friday night.
Thought RA came in here telling Les in interview that the first thing he will do is to make the jobs of his two superstars easier? - BUNCH of BULL****
I'm not going to lie I am a little upset that we are just playing at .500 ball after starting 6-1. But I do think we will get better as the season goes on, and maybe win 50 games just like we did in 04-05. The only thing that I'm worry about that if we don't start to play great basketball right away that we will get a bad seed when playoff time come around. I want us to get that 4th or 5th seed like last year. If we don't that mean we will have to play SA, SUNS, or Dallas in the first round, and that will that be too great. I mean I do believe if we play like we should we can beat them teams in the playoffs, but not in the first round.
Whoever says that Mcgrady plays for stats and not to win is really crazy. If stats was the only thing he care about he wouldn't have cryed the last two times Houston has been put out the playoffs. Becasue he did his part.
I don't think that would work with this team. Becasue when T-Mac comes in the game we will be down by so many at that time, that we will not be able to come back.
Yeah sure, Kobe's taken his teams far in recent times. He's the right fit for the Rockets organization
Through 18 Games. Record 9-9 1st Options Yao Ming + Tracy McGrady Combined Average Minutes Per Game = 36.5 PPG = 48.0 FG % = 48.0% FT % = 80.5% Secondary Options Mike James, Rafer Alston, Shane Battier, Steve Francis, Bonzi Wells, Luis Scola, Luther Head, Kirk Snyder Combined Average Minutes Per Game = 24.25 PPG = 56.9 FG % = 41.9% FT % = 63.9% See the drop off?
All you wan man, the heart mush be shown ON-COURT not on press conference, cry all you want after the game, if you are crying you know you didn´t left all on the court.
So what you saying is that if you cry after a loss that means you didnt leave it all on the court? I really think its the other way around, but hey you're free to think what you want. And I really hate when people say Tracy don't have heart. His heart might not be as big as KG or Kobe, but he does have heart.
There's simply too much drama going on around here. We're not even 20 games into the season and already far too many folks here have decided that they know more about coaching NBA basketball than Rick Adelman. Of course folks here also knew (and still profess to know) more about coaching than JVG and they also knew more about coaching than Rudy T and all he did was win two NBA Championships. Anytime things start to go wrong there is an immediate leap to assign blame because this team isn't living up to their expectations most of which were unrealistic to begin with. My point is that people need to get a grip and understand that just because they think the Rockets put together a contending team during the off-season does not make it a reality. It will become a reality when the PLAYERS and COACHES make it so on the court. Until that happens, there is nothing to be done but to wait for Adelman and these players to work this out. Jeff was dead on when he posted: Last year, they had a coach who was able to get 52 wins out of a team that lost both of its "superstars" for a significant chunk of the season, got into the playoffs and lost to a team that went all the way to the conference finals. Well, that wasn't good enough for many people so said coach was held personally responsible for not fulfilling their unrealistic expectations and ended up being summarily run out of town by a fandom and an owner (eager to escape his responsibility in the matter) who were all too happy to look for a scapegoat to assage their disappointment. This year, the "new" coach is getting shot at even before the season reaches the quarter pole. It is absolutely unbelievable the amount of bleeting that goes on around here (like the Yao thread that insinuates that the "role-players" need extra practice on their shooting). I have an idea for Clutch. Up here in Dallas on the day after every Cowboys game, Randy Galloway on his radio show hosts an "Overreaction Monday" for all of the "cowsheep" fans to go completely overboard in their reactions to the previous game in order to get it out of their collective systems. I propose that Clutch do the same thing here. Instead of opening up a post-game analysis thread, he should open up a post-game "overreaction" thread so the "roxsheep" can get it out of their collective systems.
Be careful Hillboy, you are dangerously close to the dark side, where good is evil and evil is good. You have expressed a fair share of disappointment and frustration during your tenure here. I have followed your posts, you are one of the more interesting ones to read on this board. I have always known you to be a "realist," if it is good, you call it good, if it is bad, you call it bad. If you join the "Joel Osteen" crowd, you may never be able to return to that balance. WHO is responsible for those "unrealistic" expectations, who sells us the hype, who raises the bar? That's right, the Rockets Organization, that's who. "It's Time," remember. Well, if you have been around the Rockets for a long time, this "field of dreams" is almost never ending. It is the fulfillment of the expectations that is the problem. When the team doesn't produce, makes the same mistakes they have made for years, etc, etc, etc. Fans, understandably get disappointed. Then they get lectured like schoolchildren. Well guess what? I don't blame them one bit. They are simply responding to the Rockets PR about how great we are going to be. Well, the Rockets are not great, and haven't been great for about TWELVE years. And, worse, no matter what off season miracles they perform, they don't seem to get better. I would say that is a formula for very understandable FRUSTRATION. As I said before, you either have talent and know how to use it or you don't. The good teams win and the others make excuses, "they are always adapting, adjusting, growing into the new system, new coach, new players, new popcorn. Baloney. Case in point, the Celtics have all things new, no adjustment time necessary. It is all about the temperaments of our stars, and the talent of the supporting cast. The Rockets have had years to get it right, and they can't seem to get it right. A fourth of the season is gone. Result, stuck in neutral. That's frustrating.
