A couple of months ago, I posted a link to an online strategy game called Oil Empires: http://oilempires.itch.com/ It was a big success in recruiting a lot of good, dedicated players, so I decided to try again. Oil Empires (OE) is an online strategy empire-building-and-war game similar to Civilization. If you've ever played Civilization or even some of their real-time counterparts like Age of Empires, you might be interested in OE. If you do give it a try, I'd suggest that you try the "casual server" to start with. It's in the middle of the round, so you'll be placed pretty far from the action, and should have the chance to build without too much hassle. You can contact a player called TropicalMontana if you want to join a cartel (a group of players) for protection. And there's other CF.net guys on there if you have any questions (Cheetah, Northside Moss etc.) Most of us are set up on the "Pro Server", so after you learn the ropes on casual, you can join us on Pro. We have a message board set up at: http://z4.invisionfree.com/eXploit/index.php? You can register there to get a lot of info on the game.
As long as you don't click on the "drop the soap" button you should be fine. LOL. On the real fun game and protection being that if your in a big cartel your less likely to have random people steal your money or oil.
You have to connect your oil components correctly. Oil pumping units connect to storage tanks. Storage tanks connect to Distribution Centers. Once the oil is sold, go to the dist centers to collect. Click on each building to make sure they're connected to each other correctly. Upgrade all components to pump and sell more oil. Later you can connect your refineries to your storage tanks to refine oil and make it more valuable. Refining oil is a little more complicated, so let me know once you get to that step.
well i just noticed im collecting money every 30 minutes.. about 50k. but thats weak. i wanna collect like 10,000,000 per 30 minutes! i'm going to upgrade my distribution center first... is that a good idea? or should i upgrade the pumps?
whats a faster way to collect money? just build more rigs and more storage tanks? my distribution center is at level 8.. and in the process of upgrading to 9. my storage tanks are level 7 about to upgrade to 8.
When you max out the storage and distrib., you probably want to get a shopping center or a second set of oil rigs, distrib, and storage (which is better and cheaper)
You need to have 4 refineries per distribution center/storage tank/group of oil rigs. Basically you want to refine your oil into jet fuel as fast and as much as possible. Also be sure to change your distribution center options to sell only jet fuel, or if your oil production is more than your refining capacity, sell only jet fuel and crude oil. Once you have about 4 separate oil lines maxed out, focus all of your energy on commerce. (shopping centers, resorts, and stadiums) There is thread in the Forum (Economy 101) that outlines the best way to approach building/upgrading all of your merchandise generating buildings. Soon you'll be making ridiculous amounts of money. I'm currently making something like $125,000,000 an hour. Don't lose hope, it just takes a little time to figure out all the math.
To a certain extent, yes, but you're also constantly re-investing in your empire to make yourself more ridiculous. Also, one of the big parts of the game is stealing from other players. I personally find stealing to be a lot more fun than killing/destroying other players. But I'm probably in the minority on that.

Don't bother stealing unless you have chinooks or humvees. You can steal a ridiculous amount of stuff with chinooks.
Refineries can turn your crude oil into a more refined fuel. You'll need 4 refineries to get up to jet fuel. Basically you'll hook your refineries up to a storage tank, and it will refine a lesser fuel in your storage tank into a more refined fuel. For example, a kerosene refinery will refine crude oil in your storage tank into kerosene. Likewise, a heating oil refinery will turn your kerosene into heating oil, and so on. The progression is crude oil -> kerosene -> heating oil -> gasoline -> jet fuel. The prices for selling each kind of fuel get exponentially better, so it's definitely worth it. That said, it kind of takes a few days to build up enough money to build 4 refineries, so my general rule of thumb is to only sell the most expensive kind of fuel I can make. That way, you're leaving the lesser fuels in your storage tank to get refined. By the way, we should probably take this discussion offline if you have more questions.
