The key is "if Pheonix no longer wants me". The only way Pheonix wouldn't want him is if he was in decline and/or demanding outrageous money.
Nash may be 80% of what he is today by then, but that may be sufficient. Wouldn't you take Kidd today at 34? Or next season at 35? I would.
if he still has that shooting touch why the hell not. then again aren't we hoping Aaron Brooks becomes nash-esque?
Q: Yao, when you're 36, have naturally declined and are a less valuable piece for your team, would you play for a California team if the setting and offer was right? Yao: I always like the Bay Area. LA too is nice...Eh, *shrugs shoulders* Anything can happen? (Lakers Fan: The Great Wall's coming to LA, baby. You heard him )... Actually, you really never know. Who saw the Barkley or Pippen thing happening, even Francis? Too far off a thing to forecast for Nash (and he did just respond nicely back to the question asked).
Getting Nash within the next 3 seasons would be a gold mine, and also would be impossible. Conventional wisdom suggests his body will begin to let up sometime soon, even though I would have thought that decline would have started after he left Dallas, and look how wrong I was. The article is pure speculation, and as far as I read, he mentioned Dallas specifically not us. The Rockets would be perfect right now with Nash, and I think that's what is so intriguing about this non-news. If Phoenix doesn't want him, then we likely won't either.
San Antonio is set for the future with Parker so no go there. Dallas or us I could see in a few years. As for his age, I don't think it's a problem. We would still love to have Jason Kidd on the Rockets today when many people figured he'd have nothing left following micro-fracture knee surgery. Also you had to figure he peaked during his NJ early 2000's finals runs. How else was Mark Jackson able to play long after he was looking a little more retired with his physique? It seems like passing ability will continue to be a premium in the league today. Raefer's our starting PG, isn't he?
It Steve was smart he would want a ring... If he continues to have stellar regular season but dismal playoffs ( not making it to the finals let alone winning it ) then I think he might think it over about coming over to a Texas team.
There is a very good chance that Nash is going to nosedive over the next three seasons. It is absolutely amazing that he is still playing at this level but as frail as he is you have to expect that he could literally fall apart within 2 years. None of us can know for sure but we do know that smaller guys with a lot of mileage usually don't play at all past 35. Only a small handful have played at a level anywhere near what they did in there prime. But Stockton did. Kidd is doing it (although he is not exactly small). Maybe Nash can too.
