I can't believe this is the 25th anniversary of the greatest music video ever made. Unreal that it seems like only yesterday me and my curls threw on my Thriller jacket and danced in our living room in Houston. WOW! My sister was Ola Ray. I was MJ. And til this day, I know every step of the video. Has there been anyone ever been on top of the world like this guy was those 3-4 years during this albums reign? Maybe. But I am an 80's baby. Hard to imagine.
I think about this often. There will never be another star like him; not possible. He was as huge as it gets.
Not to take anything away from Michael Jackson, but there was this guy named Elvis Presley that practically invented modern rock music. I hear he was pretty popular...
Probably his only equal. Him and the Beatles. But for some reason, I think MJ might of been bigger. He just revolutionized everything about music from A-Z and if you play anything he made pre-1992, people still get up and dance to it. Have you ever seen anyone fill stadiums like he did? That concert he had in Bucharest back in...I think was 1993...there must of been like 200k people in that stadium.
Thriller was a great album, but personally I always felt that "Off the Wall" was his best album and one of the greatest r&b albums ever.
I "hear" that MJ is coming out with a new cd in 2008. Dont care too much about it though... <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cEObeRJrq-Q&rel=1&border=0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cEObeRJrq-Q&rel=1&border=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Its this a real song? Real video? Wow! If it is, thats a very good song. The video...well, he has a high standard to upkeep so. That song is pretty good.
In white America, yes. However, his music didn't cross racial lines nearly as seamlessly as Mike. I have grandparents still pissed at Elvis for "stealing our music." Remember, there were many black artists doing the same things as Elvis and not getting the recognition outside their community, leading to a signicant portion of people that didn't percieve Elvis as new or original. The popularity Micheal enjoyed was immensely more universal than Elvis. It's funny how sometimes people forget racial and ethnic comoponents to these types of questions. I can understand the desire to, but sometimes it's very relevant.
I guess I like the song/video posted. But don't you guys think it sounds a bit Boy Bandish? I dunno. I just think Mike can do better. I loved "Rock My World" when that came out.
Good point, Astro. And "Rock My World" was a very good song. I think we still holding Mike to that standard he set for 30 years. Its hard to imagine he can get anywhere close to that again. Maybe he can. People that are geniuses don't lose it over night...or over time actually. For example, look at Madonna. Now, as successful as she is, she is not MJ. But she can arguably be considered the most successful female performer of all time. She still makes records. And they sell. But will they ever sell like they did before? I checked some of her more recent albums and they all sold about 2 million world wide...which isn't bad at all when you consider 50Cent's last album isnt even platinum yet (I didn't see it was. Maybe it is now). Maybe there will be more to come with MJ. I am rooting for him because the man is a freakin genius.
Actually, after hearing it a couple of more times, its a little too slow. Bring it down a notch in my book. Its a GOOD song. Someone please give him Timbaland's cell number!
I would say that Beatlemania would trump just about any teenage hysteria for a happening pop idol by a long shot.
I would say it's something like: 1. Beatles 2. Michael Jackson 3. Elvis But Michael Jackson is just one guy. The Beatles were a band... so it's a little different. Imagine having all that attention just on one person.
Prince >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Michael Jackson and who during the early 80's would have thought Prince was the normal one?!?! Now we all know what a plastic surgery addicted child molesting monkey rearing freak MJ really is.

Jackson Reissues Thriller With Kanye, will.i.am, Akon (T-Pain feels left out) Michael Jackson's bazillion-selling Thriller album turns 25 today, but the folks at Epic/Legacy are giving themselves a few extra months to plot a party befitting such a milestone. On February 11 the world over, and the following day in the U.S., the label will issue Thriller - 25th Anniversary Edition, which features the original album boosted by the usual slew of unreleased tracks, rarities, and music videos. It's a must-own LP in any form, but this gets us especially excited: Kanye West will provide a remix of "Billie Jean" for the set. Sounds really good, doesn't it? The disc also sports remixes of "P.Y.T." and "The Girl Is Mine" from will.i.am, and a new take on "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" from will.i.am and Akon. As for the strictly Jacko bonus material, this new Thriller has it in spades: Michael's original demo version of "Billie Jean", non-album tracks "Someone in the Dark" and "Carousel" (all available on 2001's Thriller Special Edition), and the previously unreleased "For All Time", recorded during the original Thriller sessions. The disc also includes a DVD featuring the iconic clips for "Thriller," "Beat It" and "Billie Jean", as well as Jackson's star-solidifying performance of "Billie Jean" from the "Motown 25" TV special in 1983. To top it off, Michael's checked in from CrazyworldNeverland to pen a "personal greeting" exclusively for this release. In related news, rumors have been swirling that the Jackson Five will reunite for a tour next year.
