Well... it's here. Pay to play. With P2P becoming endangered some major names (AOL, Sony, RealNetworks) have started their online music ventures with subscription based services.

What do you think of these services?
Do you see them taking off, becoming popular?
Do you think P2P file sharing will become an underground thing, existing in small groups and operating with limited users?

    just curious,

like Napster, do you think Morpheus will be shut down soon?
and if they were, would you pay then?

I doubt very serious that I'll be using any P2P services. And I also doubt I'll be buying many new CD's if record companies try to make unrippable CD's. I don't use Morpheus or anything like that. I buy my music, but I also expect to be able to use it how I want to use it.

I think just like when napster shut down, no one is going to pay for the service. So if morpheus ever shuts down, no one is going to pay, another similiar service will just spawn up.

eh . . . I download some MP3s, and if I like the artist, I'll buy a CD or two . . . Gnutella works just great for me -- and it's not likely to be shut down, as it's not a client - server configuration, but rather a client - client config . . .

I will just keep buying the CD's that I really like. I won't buy the P2P service though. I just don't listen to that much music.
