hmm, my bad...my point stands though. All the mother has to do is claim child abuse and the father would never get to see the child without going through 50 different hoops.

    not true!

It is really really hard to get the courts to act on child abuse cases. You better have real proof --- not just marks on a child but credible adult witnesses.

While the courts favor the Mother in custody cases the are still on the Fathers side as far as visitation.

If a Father is not seeing his child there is a pretty good chance it's because of apathy or laziness (or he's guilty of something).

But that would still make them the child's grandparents, right? Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming them for this or anything, but it just seems odd that they wouldn't call and want to talk to her at least once in the 4 months she was missing.

I think the paternal grandmother tried to contact the mother. The mother would either ignore the calls or tell her the baby was sleeping. The paternal grandmother has no rights. She's the one who contacted the police when she saw the drawing cause if it was up to the father the mother would have gotten away with murder.

I live in PA so your correct, I can't speak for NYC

It seems like most government social service agencies are overworked and underpayed - with a high burn-our rate. They end up choosing the route that causes them the least amount of work.

I work part-time in the "system" and to justify removing a child from a situation or preventing a father from visitation someone has to collect all the evidence themselves and practically hand it to the agency so they have no other choice but to act on it. It's really frustrating and I could tell you stories that would just break your heart.

You guys piss me off when you make statements off the cuff. You're making assumptions about the father that makes him seem like a d1ck. He cared about his daughter and made every attempt to be with her.

Am I the only one who thought when opening this thread that Houston Nutt, Ole Miss football coach, killed a child?

The attorney for a guy who killed his stepdaughter for not obeying the rules is named Stickler?

Call me cynical --- but if my child was carted off to Texas -- I guarantee I would not go months without contact from her. I would be in my car (if I couldn't afford a plane) and be knocking on that door. I would demand visitation rights and trips to my home.

No one can stop someone from seeing his kids if nothing funny is going on -- unless they kidnap them off to another country.

This is an example of where ignorance would be bliss. I wish I hadn't ever read this story. :(

    Hell yeah.

First, lets give him props for having an attorney track her down. Father of the Year right there.

It's not like he learned the child was in Texas yesterday. He's known for a few months at least. Even if the mother ran off without his knowledge and he could not get her to return, he knew where she was and sat on his hands.

Could a mod please change the title. I mean, it's already a stupid and unnecessary pun, but it's spelled with Houston's actual name so it's not even technically a pun.

They said an address was not found for months after June 15, 2007. That does NOT mean they found it out ON June 15th. How many months? Who knows? You're making assumptions again.
