The first step is in recognizing that spanking your kids is different from beating your kids.

You can spank without being abusive.

I wonder how many of the people that believe in outlawing spanking actually have children.

 

I have spanked my oldest son three times. Each time, it was a single firm swat and each time it was after a time out failed to get his attention. I don't believe that more than one swat is necessary (I read an article once that came to the logical conclusion that the first swat is for the offense and every subsequent swat is the parent venting anger) to get his attention (which is really the point).

Now, he knows that when I start counting down from three, the punishment will be a time out. If he fails to respond to the time out, he will get a swat. I highly doubt I will have to swat him again as he is VERY responsive once I say "three, two..."

I may have to give his younger brother a swat once he is old enough to really start learning about consequences, but again I suspect that I won't have to do it more than 3-5 times total, and maybe less as he learns from his brother extremely well.

I don't think it should be illegal for me to give my child a swat.

I firmly agree with your views on raising kids. When I have children, I will raise them in the same fashion when it comes to disciplining them. Anyone who goes overboard and spanks their kids for everything just makes the spanking less effective.

 

I didn't read the article, so will it be ok to use a stun gun set to a low voltage?

 

My dad had a special paddle for the situation. It was a complete mind job on me and my brother. He would tell us pops are coming, make us go get the paddle off the fridge. He'd then make us go to our room, and wait till he was ready to come in and dish out the pops.

If we cried before hand, we got 2 extra. Standard was 3. If we placed our hands on our butts trying to block the swat, 3 more were added. He probably didn't hit us hard enough to kill a fly looking back. Although at the time, we'd do almost anything to keep from getting "whoopins." It was all mental.

I'll never forget the last one I received. I got in trouble one day. Was told to go and get the paddle and he'd meet me in my room. After the standard 3, I turned around and asked him if he was done. He said later he knew then it wouldn't work anymore. In order to make it effective, he'd have to REALLY hit me.

Fast forward 20 years....

The paddle was handed down to me about a year ago. As soon as the little one gets old enough to understand what that means, it will be used. Laws or no laws.

And people wonder what's wrong with our country. We're turning into a bunch of pansy asses. Grow a pair for once in your life.

I don't think the regular ass-beatings I got as a kid from my psychotic father did me any "good" other than to condition me to simultaneously accept abuse and disrespect authority in all forms. I would never spank my own kids.

Having said that, laws telling parents how to raise their children are against everything I believe in. I say no to the Nanny State.

 

BTW, I do want to thank everyone who spanks their daughters for giving them spanking fetishes. I guess there is a silver lining after all.

 

Again, I suppose this is only if said daughters should have been born in the first place.

Sometimes getting spankings as a kid is something you can look back at and laugh about you getting your ass whooped. When I got spanked is wasn't so much the spanking that f*cked with my head, it was the terror and anger my dad did it with. He had serious anger issues, and always and still does have to be always right, never wrong, even now that I'm grown up. Some people will never change.

What happens if kids that hate their parents start accusing them of spanking them? I can see thousands of cases popping up every week. Hell, I would've done it.

 

My point is that people should not have children if they can not afford them, all the way through their college education. It is completely irresponsible and should not be condoned my anyone. Instead we are amused by "It's not my baby" episodes on Jerry Springer. These people should not be having them at all. Don't have a kid you can't afford then cry about their education.

 

I advocate corporal punishment, as an absolute last resort/result. If I have told you something 20 times, given you timeouts, taken your favorite things away and you still persist in continuing the same behavior.......you better believe some spanking gonna happen.

Keep telling parents no to discipline will have serious repercussions on future society, imo.

basically you are saying limit unprotected sex to upper income brackets
that's eugenics- sterilize, abort, control the poorer population demographics

I'm saying people should not get, have or keep stuff they can't afford. It is very basic, but many don't understand.

 

Spanking should be allowed only when it's consensual, and man on man.

 

Clearly an over exaggeration, but many a chances they would get.

And whoever posted about having to go get the paddle and wait for dad reminded me of my next door neigbor growing up. His mom used to make him go break off his own "switch" from the bushes. It was hilarious watching him cry while searching for just the right "switch" because if he didn't get the right one, it was his ass. Big time.

Don't handcuff me and tell me how to raise him . .then blame me if he doesn't turn out right
