I was hired to take some photos for an event put on by the Buffalo Bayou Partnership a couple weeks back. One of the photos was used by Arts Houston Magazine for their cover. http://www.artshouston.com/current-issue.php

This was taken from the Sabine Street Bridge. I've been shooting photos since I was a kid. My dad got me my first 35mm when I was 12. It has always been a hobby, but I've been taking on a few jobs here and there for extra $$$. It goes sort of in this order: web developer, musician, photographer.

NICE. Simple. Direct. Caught the essence of the event. ExIf information for the photo? Can you share the info or post a screenshot of the meta info from your photo managing software? It seems like an otherwise normal shot, but it certainly caught the eye of the magazine editors. It looks like a candid shot anyone here could have taken, but that only you knew how to exactly get, you know?
that area of the bayou is real pretty at night. that part of the bayou from the Sabine bridge to the hobby center garage is real nice. they have lights that light up near the aquarium There is this arching bridge on buffalo bayou. It looks nice as you watch the sunset from the bridge.
It exposed for 1.3 seconds at f3.5. It was taken with my 18-70mm kit lens, amazingly. I'll probably be out there. The events are pretty interesting and really well organized.
I figured a long exposure was necessary to caught that much nice lighting in the dark. Tripod? I couldn't hold still for THAT long.
It was definitely on a tripod. I won't shoot longer than about 1/30th of a second without a tripod and expect to keep it still. My dad is giving me a lens he got last year because he got a new camera it doesn't fit - a Sigma f2.8 17-35. I'm dying to shoot low light with that. It's a killer lens. I think I'm going to go out and get a couple neutral density filters so I can shoot some long exposures during the day.
a picture just like that has been my wallpaper for the past 6 months or so on my computer at work! great photos!!! did you go to artcrawl, by chance?? Jeff, that's a hot photo...IMO looks better than the one they used for the front with that stupid gigantic screen
Start by doing a personal website, then work your way up to do friends' sites, and then learn some more. Here's my learning roadmap I think you should follor: HTML, JavaScript, Perl, CSS, ASP (vb), FLASH. Use DreamWeaver. Don't expect to RUN if you haven't learned how to crawl.
