Did anyone check out Inside the NBA on TNT when they showed highlights (u can call them that) of the Rockets game? Peter Vecey said the Rockets could use 'Vernon Maxwell'. Damn, I actually agree with Peter Vecey.
If I ever agree with Peter Vecsey (and I don't believe I have yet), I might be forced to change my moniker. Therefore, I won't start now. The last thing we need is a headcase. If RT and CD are compelled to sign one just to shake things up, at least let it be Rider and not Maxwell. Personally, I say we just sign Pig Miller and get it over with. At least he hustles. Plus, as an added bonus, he won't run up 11 stadium rows to fight a fan.
Man, things really have gotten bad in H-Town if you're actually starting to agree with Peter Vecsey .
If we add Maxwell, Rider, and Rodman..... oh, what the hell, Tarpley and Chris Washburn too.... can we change the team name to Rackets?
Don't knock Vernon! He didn't kill anybody! Hey, we must not forget, he started CLUTCH CITY. Game 5 against Phoenix, after being down 0-2. Who was it that won that game for the Rockets?? Not Dream, not Kenny, not anybody else. He can beat up as many Portland fans as he wants, but he would bring some emotion to this wimpy team. He will hit the game winning shots that we can't hit now. MadMax forever!
You go tinman!!!!!! Mad Max can at least make Francis and Mo look like school boys with his gun toting, bag-o-weed, chase fans in the stands style
Hey!!! I have to stand up for Vernon!! (for obvious reasons, given my name!) Exactly right...Vernon was the epitome of Clutch City in 1994...that guy hit more big shots all year long than I've ever seen from one player...just some ridiculous shots that had no business going in! He ultimately hit the big one in 1994 that sealed the deal on the whole championship. I have a framed poster and ticket stubs from 1994 playoffs in my office...it's really big! the other day i had someone in the office...his administrative assistant came in later to bring some documents..she looked up at the picture and said, "hey..that's my baby's daddy!!" she was pointing to maxwell. as much as i loved him as a player, he certainly doesn't give a damn about much!! kinda sad considering how much he's lost because of his lifestyle. also..in law school...one of my closest friend's best friend from high school (follow that?)...was a ballboy during the 1992-93 season...he developed a good relationship with Scott Brooks. Scott told this ballboy that Max would be the greatest player in the league if he would get just 5 hours of sleep per night. Scott told him that Max would stay out on roadtrips all night long, never coming back to his hotel room...he'd arrive the next day at warmups, and that would be the first the team would see of him since the evening before.
People seem to conveniently forget that Maxwell quit on the team in 1995. People pound on Rider but praise Maxwell!? Both have rings, both are headcases and troublemakers. Both are having trouble finding jobs where they can seriously contribute because both are nuts. Keep them both as far away from the Rockets as possible.
The rockets already have that type of player in Mobley. Why else would they need another player throwing up another 20 bad shots a game.
I'll defend Vernon on quiting in 95. Granted it was a not a good thing initially, but that allowed us to rally back and gave Clyde more playing time. So Vernon caused the Rockets to bond together in 1994 to win after the Phoenix game and Vernon caused the Rockets to bond after going AWOL in 1995. Either which, I'll defend Vernon. I remember when Vernon was with Charlotte. He came out of JAIL to the Hornets game to hit the game winning 3 pointer. Vernon was the ONLY player not affraid of Jordan. Retire his number, he's a hero.
He's got better range than Mobley and is an awesome defender (or was I guess. I haven't seen him play in a long time). Max could be like the Bandit in Smokey and the Bandit, running interference with the law for Mo and Francis so they don't get busted again. You know he was snortin lines too so he can help Mo on the masking techniques. And he'll play D and take the end of the game 45 footer, and it won't be no from the knee push shot either, it'll be a bonafide jumper just like the old days. Sure he quit in '95 but he wasn't gonna play a lot in the playoffs anyway, and he is a headcase after all. He wasn't no Joe Barry Carroll, i'll tell you that right now, Mister!
Dude, comparing RINGS that Rider and Maxwell have is TOTALLY wrong. Isiah Rider hardly or DIDN'T play at all for the Lakers. We Rockets fans know what Maxwell did in the playoffs.
