Despite Wells' troubles last year, I really did have some hope for him, as did many of us. He was happier, slimmer, more motivated, got the coach who revived his career once. Everything was well, until.. until he played in games. He still got rebounds like he did. He still had some decent games. However, his jumper, never stellar, is now totally off-- so much so that his presence seems to clog up the middle for the rest of the team. He is also turning the ball over entirely too much when he goes to the basket.' Is it just age and wear and tear that comes to every player? Such thing happen to guys in their 30s, especially one who has had significant wear and injuries throughotu the years. Sometimes these dropoffs are quite steep... look at what happened to Gary Payton as he aged. Will Bonzi ever be the same player he was in Sacramento?
I hope not...Bonzi is the only big guard we have with real playoff experience. We need him to rebound and score for us off the bench, so I hope he's just in a slump.
No. If you mean will he ever be the same player that showed up for those 6 games against the Spurs, then the answer is DEFINITELY NO!
if he completely stops taking jumpers that's instant improvement right there. i don't know what to make of bonzi because if he had actually converted a number of his missed layups he'd be looking significantly better. the fact that he's getting himself to the rim must be some kind of good sign i think.
I actually thought JVG utilized him better last year when he did play. He was a lot bigger back then, and JVG only had him doing post ups and getting offensive boards and finding open spots near the basket. This year, he's taking waaaay too many jump shots, even 3's. I think he shot a total of 2 threes last year, one which was a lucky halfcourt shot he made vs Miami at home. He and Mike James would have been terrific additions vs Utah. We could have used Bonzi's toughness had he been 20 pounds thinner, because the motivation to be part of a championship team was there.
Bonzi is a rhythm and stretch player. Wait till he gets comfortable and starts going. He will be fine.
Install a Bonzi cage on the sidelines and only unleash him when we play San Antonio. Or just bench him until SA.
bonzi just needs to get in a rhythm. he puts up 20+ when he gets extended minutes. its hard for him to find a groove right now.
If Van Gundy wasn't so damn stubborn and actually gave him some playing time, then maybe we could actually find out.
Just wondering...if Rox put him on the market what would he fetch? Would Bonzi and Rafe = a decent return? Like I said, just wondering...
What I have noticed about Bonzi is that he is not playing his game! So he must be doing what the coach is asking him to do. It is a desaster and he should return to driving to the basket, no outside shots or three pointers. The coach is crazy for trying to change his game IMHO
Artest the player, perhaps. Not Ron - Ron, the playuh. Oh, and what would you give for him that Sac would take?
Bonzi was dominating a couple games back. I wouldn't worry about him. First of all, he knows he's not the franchise guy, so might be winging it a little.
He's hurt, but at least he wasn't out of shape this year. He's still the only guy that has a clue in Adelman's system. He's going to play a significant role in this team, ESPECIALLY if we run into the Spurs in the post-season. You can count on that. When teams go small like Golden State, Bonzi is the kind of guy that can punish teams with his strength. His defense and overall speed has been subpar this year though.
