Be quiet...if you start talking like that, some people on this board will want to trade Scott, Pence and Patton for him. This is because it sounds like you're talking about Dontrelle Willis.

    No Cordero for Astros either?

If true who is left to sign for the bullpen or do we go with what we've got? How do people feel about Chad Qualls as closer? Who then becomes the setup guy?

I rather give the closer job to Qualls or one of our young arms than pay Cordero 10+ million for 4 years. He's not worth that type of deal.

I would pay that kind of money to Francisco Rodriguez...Cordero? No way.

At the very least this hurts the Brewers more than it helps the Reds.

I guess the Red's thought they were a closer away from contending...lol.

we need to go after Tad Iguchi pretty hard and then go after one of the Japanese closers. the recent Japanese relievers that have come over in the past few years have a pretty good track record, why not take a chance on one.

Exactly. What were they thinking? They have many more pressing holes to fill beyond a top tier closer. Oh well, self inflicted wounds by other ball clubs is fine by me.

The Scrubs got Wood today . I wouldn't have mined taking a shot on him for our bullpen .

I'd take a shot at Prior.. 3 yr deal based on games-played incentives worth up to 15 mil? But only guarantee around 7 mil? something like that would be good I think..

There are still guys like Kip Wells, Kris Benson, and Carlos Silva. It's obvious we'll have to trade to get a solid #2 starter like Scott Kazmir or Dan Haren.

So far it's been a typical Astros offseason. A few things here or there but nothing earth shattering. I'm glad I didn't reup for season tickets. This is probably my last year for the Rockets too. I'm fed up with almosts and so closes!

    Winter 2006: Carlos Lee
Winter 2005: no big names (screwed by Beltran)
    Winter 2004: Roger Clemens
Winter 2003: Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte
    Winter 2002: Jeff Kent

Yeah, the Astros just never sign big-name guys.

I'm glad, too. Get somebody in there who still likes the Astros. Enjoy watching NeckCar on the weekends.

And we all saw what happened the season after they spent the winter of 2005 twiddling their thumbs....

Maybe I'm missing something here? They went 82-80 in 2006

Actually, they were screwed over by Beltran in 2004... but otherwise, point is quite true. This team's track record in free agency in recent years shows a lot of aggressiveness.
