Well, this is my first time to translate a whole article. A lot of grammar errors, actually. Now I know how much efforts it take, and appreciate more of your consistent hard work. The keyword is "consistent" Like Yao said, we need to put in the efforts and communicate more.
it's a nice interview overall. but i doubt jvg would tell yao what yao says he did about adleman not having the experience of coaching a 25pt center.
yao likes to talk about leading but the proof is that t-mac is the leader. t-mac creates for the team and he is what makes the offense run. the rockets have consistently been terrible without t-mac but have shown they can maintain when without yao. during yao's career his numbers have consistently DECLINED in the 4th quarter. we need yao to be consistently great in the 2nd half, especially the 4th quarter, to be able to lead this team, but he has never been able to because he always gets worn down by then. we are at an impasse with yao's leadership ability unless he has some way to become a 4th quarter leader.
I don't know how valid this article is but you don't have to be the best player to be a leader. Derek Fisher is more of a leader than Kobe but Kobe is a much better player. (just an example).
All of this "it's on me", "it's time for me to be the leader" rhetoric from our two main guys is about as useless as the "i'm in the best shape of my career" quotes from Hakeem post '96. Some of you buy way too much into this stuff.
I would agree with you to an extent, but coming from Yao I tend to give it a bit more credibility. DD
Exactly. We've been hearing this talk from both of them for 4 years. I don't know why anyone thinks THIS time it will be different. Quit talking about doing it and do it.
Anyone else find it funny that Yao had to "WAKE UP" Tracy McGrady? Yao has to lead, he is the only one capable of it on the team. DD
The interview was real. Yao did not mean that "it is on me", he meant that after six seasons, it was time for him to assume some leadership responsibility for this team, so he talked to T-Mac about how to adjust after the Miami game. I see no negatives from this interview what so ever.
Both pryuen and barryxzz have done great jobs. I do not think this is a word-for-word record of an actual interview. Anyway, it shows that Yao is still showing great respect to Shaq.
This is from the cbssportsline.com: "After McGrady and Yao met on the flight from Miami following a loss to the Heat on Friday, the two stars finally ended the drought by leading the Rockets to a 109-81 victory over Denver the next night. "We talked about, after six losses in a row, we are in the wrong direction as a team," Yao said of his conversation with McGrady. "We need to clear our minds and think. It starts with us, our two guys. It starts with us and then goes the rest of the team."
It's funny, after Yao waking up tmac on the plane to tell him that he's going to lead the team, Tmac came out hot. .
Why does everyone in the world already understand this except apparently TMac and Yao? Did they just figure this out over the weekend?
I am curious how Yao plans to lead this team. Is he going to lead by example by grabbing 20 boards a game and dropping 81 points? Is he going to be a on-court coach and tell other players where to go? Just curious.
