I wanted to take a break from all the play SF, fire RA, and trade Alston threads and get some input on the following. Emeka Okafor has already indicated he won't resign w/Charlotte. Do you think there is any way the Rockets can land him to a long term deal? Perhaps via a sign and trade, considering we have a lot of "movable" players at the present. Do you think his price tag is too high? Would he give us a "home-town discount?" I can't think of a better young pf to be Yao's enforcer and make this a championship roster. Thoughts...

We don't hve the pieces to trade for him and he will get 10 million a year at least.
Plus a lot of team will give more for him in a trade and will over pay him.
    Not realistic.

I don't think he would sign here for any less money. He is barely getting out of his rookie contract I believe, so he will want his money. I could be wrong though. If Wilcox's contract wasn't as high, I would love to see the Rockets go after him.

He opted out cause he wants more money than Charlotte offered. Short answer is no.

$10MM/yr? No, Emeka's gonna be a borderline max player.

If you ask me, when a team has a franchise level center, PF is the last position they should focus on. In the case of the Rockets, I'm OK with Scola and Chuck for now. If both guys bomb out this season then I'd take another look. But going forward, the only big money we should even consider doling out better be for a PG or maybe another perimeter playmaker.

Scola is looking like a pretty good long term PF option to me...

For 10mil, I would rather have

    34) Richard Jefferson $12,200,000
    37) Gilbert Arenas $11,950,400
    40) Carlos Boozer $11,593,816
    41) Steve Nash $11,375,000
    42) Jason Richardson $11,111,110
    43) Kirk Hinrich $11,000,000

Any one of them will be much better than Sokafur.

Scola is just balling right now. Finally got his confidence going! I especially loved that play where he frustrated the entire Denver defense by getting his own missed shots and pump faking the **** out of them. Camby was so frustrated that he flagrant fouled Scola, hahaha! I'm loving Scola right now

I think Scola could be it.

It would be nice to have a true shot blocker off the bench, but I think Scola can be a very solid 30 mpg player.

The guy has offensive game, no doubt about it. And he rebounds with tenacity.

I think we need a 5/4 combo player who can defend and score a bit to take some pressure off when Yao is having a hard time.

I agree with this. Also, Landry hasn't failed to disappoint in the little opportunities he's been given, preseason included.

The Rockets have a nice little PF by committee. I'd like to see them find a long term backup center solution.

Please excuse my grammar error...I meant Landry hasn't disappointed in his opportunities of playing time.

I'd love to have Emeka, but unless dream whispers sweet nothings into his ear, there's no way we can afford him.

Scola may be a little bit small to play the 5, but he's scrappy enough to (particularly in a lineup with good rebounding gaurds like Bonzi and Francis) but i think he's showing us lately that he is a long term solution. I expect Landry to work out as well.

And back up center? Deke has at least another decade left in the tank.

And he plays with passion. You can see his confidence going up game by game. As he gets used to the league and improves his defense, which I think will happen, Scola will fill the 4 spot nicely, with Hayes backing him up until a younger player with a more well rounded game fills the role sometime in the future.

It's time for Scola to start.
