I'm not one to say anything bad about anyone, let alone the Rockets. I love this team. But here it is. I already mentioned this in the game thread. But here it is again to those who didn't see it. When the second half started, they were showing a little "interview" Yao/Tmac had with ESPN. A question asked was:What was the best/worst part of having JVG as a coach? Tmac's answer.: The worst part- "You do something really good, yet there's still a little bald guy"(not sure if those were the exact terms). The best part- "We were ALWAYS PREPARED." Being prepared...something this team is lacking for the past 10 games, and unhopefully, the upcoming ones too. Anybody aggree? Let the discussion begin.
All those injuries last year and the rockets still managed a 50+ winning record and we fire the coach? JVG should never have left... he knew the limitations of the role players and hopefully now the rest of the JVG haters see he wasn't crazy
I was and still am happy we fired JVG but upset at the Rick hiring.....i knew this wasn't going to work...
I thought Tracy said something along the lines of: "You could be feeling good (doing good?), and there'd be a little short guy walk right by and not say a word to you.." I think Yao cracked a joke along the lines of: "There were best parts?"
You don't appreciate something until its gone and this just happens to be the perfect case for me. JVG was a great coach and although his coaching style was boring it was effective AND efficient. I wouldn't blame the players or coach on our two game 7 losses, we just happened to play two better teams who wanted it more than we did, not to mention we really didn't have much help besides T-Mac and Yao. The fact that JVG was let go only to be replaced by RA really grew on me because i believed we would have a more efficient offensive system with a funner style but now it seems that our personnel just doesn't fit his system. 13 games into the season and RA has been outcoached in over half the games, with his stubborness to mess with the rotation now I wouldn't be surprised if we're lottery bound and he gets the boot at the end of the season. As much as we all hated JVG's style you have to admit he did not get the recognition he deserved from this board. Hopefully one day he gets that ring he has been longing for to end his tenure as one of the better coaches in the NBA.
TECH posted the exact words Yao used when he was asked that question... Man I'm still really upset about this loss...
The same Tmac that said last year during the playoffs that he didn't bother looking at scouting reports? That's weird..
I never thought his style was boring, although all my friends (Laker fans, Kings fans, and Suns fans) thought I was crazy. I always thought that the only coach that could do better was Phil Jackson, but I never thought Aldeman would have the Rockets in the situation they are in now. I thought the worst case scenario was that the Rockets would fall to 6th place. But its still very early so hopefully things change.
http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2007-11-24/12493315417.shtml Well the above sina.com article is very detailed on what TMAC and Yao Ming responded when Ric Bucher asked them what is the best and worst of time under the Jeff Van Gundy's coaching. TMAC's answer were: "If purely from basketball perspective, the best part of Jeff's coaching is that we came to each game well prepared, and every player gave his all and played to his best capability day-in day-out." "The worst part of Jeff's coaching was on a certain bright and happy day, this small fellow walked up to you and said something to you." Upon hearing TMAC's comments, Yao Ming responded: "Well, as far as I'm concerned, I did not feel it the same way as you. I did not remember anything he said to me, because he is only up to my waist (and I can hardly hear what he said) " TMAC laughed so hard that he leaned his head to the shoulder of Yao Ming, and quipped: "That's too exaggerated."
And don't forget to add that when T-Mac and Yao were being interviewed, JVG was right there in the room watching and listening to them.
You don't have to feel bad for JVG the guy earned millions Obviously, Yao and Tmac didn't enjoy themselves when playing under JVG but winning would've fixed everything. But the team didn't get past the 1st round, then JVG got fired. So it was completely fair.
Am I the only one who thinks Tracy's comment, "We were always prepared" could be interpreted as a direct shot against Adelman? I didn't see the interview so I'm not sure about the context.
You are reading too much into it. Tmac was simply answering a simple question. JVG is known for being prepare and tough on his players. Tmac was just trying to find something nice to say about JVG. Anything Tmac say as longest is positive about JVG can be taken out of the context and treat it as a shot at Adelman.
