Man, I can't get enough of this radio show. It's on 6-9pm on 950am here in Houston. The guy is freakin' incredible. Those of you who have heard him know what I'm talking about and those who haven't have to check him out. He's gotta site: http://www.philhendrieshow.com OS
I'm looking forward to this Friday...he's going to do a live webcast of his show. I'll be able to see how he goes back and forth between characters. I joined his backstage pass membership ($7 a month) so I can watch it and listen to his old archives of his characters. OS
you can't even get a free sound sample on that site... rH ---my bad... here's the link to free sound "drops" http://www.philhendrieshow.com/drops.html rH
His studio is walking distance from where I live. One day he was talking about Mexican food (not as a character, just as himself)and was naming some really crappy places that he thought were good. I told him in Koreatown he was better off going to one of the trucks on Eight street, because at least the food was home made. I even mentioned one by name that's halfway between the studio and my building that I often walk to. He hung up on me and called me a chronic. It was kind of wierd. There was no screener or anything when I called. --Deji
I LOVE his show! I've been listening to it since I found it back in January Funniest show on the air, he's rational and thoughtful while naturally funny. He's had a great takes about the terrorist attacks to which makes his show even better!
The way he can go back and forth between characters is amazing. It would be hard enough to go back and forth with just your normal voice but to be able to change character and keep the conversation going is something else. I can't wait for the live webcast this Friday. OS
I think the funniest one I've heard was last years Super Bowl preview. The guy he was doing was giving a run down of all the past super bowls. I almost drove off the road and into a ditch i was laughing so hard. CK
My favorite character is Bobbi, the lady from the homeowners association. She seems to piss off the callers the most. And her "husband" chiming in in the background has gets me howling everytime. OS
Old School, The one where she was complaining about her neighbor putting in a ramp for his wheelchair, and calling it unsightly had me ROCKING. DaDakota
when I first heard this show, I was like, "what the hell is this??" now I think it is absolutely hilarious. this guy ends up with some really clever shows...and you can just imagine he and his staff sitting in there dying laughing as people are freaking out at his characters!
My favorite characters have to be David G. Hall, the "program director" and how he tries to bully Phil into doing a more controversial show. The other character has to be Bud Dickman. My favorite skits, other then the David skits is when he's on location, like when he was on "location" at a used car lot promoting the lot, especially when he was there for the "Planet of the Apes" segment.
Anyone catching the Hendrie character (can't remember his name) talking about his mom using a can opener on his ball sack Thursday night? I was going thru a drive thru and had tears in my eyes. I bet the gal handing me my order thought I was nuts. OS
*Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr* What are you doing? *Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr* I'm opening a can of Tuna *Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr* Do you have to do that now . . . you're LIVE on the radio! *Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr* Almost done *Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr* It's a big can OMG, that had me dying in laughter! I didn't like Phil much when I first started listening to him, but I've come to enjoy his show more and more -- I don't make it a point to listen, but if I'm in the car at that time, I'll put it on. VERY funny stuff.
I think tonights show will be well worth listening to. As I've mentioned, tonight is the live webcast show (for members). I can't catch it live but supposedly they are going to have it available on the site later. os
