I am horrible at them. Why can't they just invited me in for an on-site interview. I mean I only live like 10 miles away. This was my 4th or 5th phone interview since I graduated, and I've bombed all of them. I prepared for this one for like 6 hours since last night. And now that I got to it, my voice started shaking again, and I started to stutter and talking out of my a**. Darn it !!! I wanted this job so bad. I just don't know how to / or can't sell myself over the freaking phone. Who ever came up with this phone interview idea should die and ...... well die. Why is it so hard to find a freaking job? .....
are you sure you gave them your correct name? i hate them too. as a matter of fact, i hate in person interviews too. whenever i'm feel like i'm bailing, i'll go into joke mode. i didn't get a new position after 3 interviews. finally, i went into an interview thinking, "you know, it doesn't matter if i get this or not." was a lot more relaxed, and three weeks later, I got the job!
sorry to hear that, as far as interviewing is concerned, seems to me you might just be too nervous. no need to prepare 6 hrs for an interview. just do a little research on the company, and be prepared to answer stupid questions like, "tell me how you would resolve a conflict with a customer".
I actually do well at in-person interviews, since you're having a face to face conversation. But during a phone interview you're judged on your digitized vioce and words over land line or satellite channels. It could be misleading don't you think. I just think that you should be judged on both what you say and also your visual presentation and impression. I always get nervous during phone interviews, no matter how much I prepare for it. I went to the freaking company's website and did my research. I came up with a list of things about the compay to talk about. But the interview only lasted a few questions. That's how I know that I did horrible. I wasn't really 6 hours. I was over exaggerating. But I did prepare for it since last night.
being on the other side and interviewing people, sometimes they are just having a bad day or not into it. it is completely unfair to you, but it doesn't mean as much to them as it does to you. did you fire off a "thank you for your time, i'm very interested" email? i recommend it. follow up! good luck.
yup.....where i had no internet for 60 hours a week. that was tough. i was in nigeria with my fiance, got back in sept, got married 3 wks ago and i'm back at work in downtown houston. therefore, i'm back on the bbs.
I did the, "Thank you for your time. I'm looking forward to hearing from you" thing. What concerns me is that it seemed like she cut the interview short. Is that something that an interviewer does if they are not interested or feel like it is a waste of time? The interview just felt too short. I don't know how they'll be able to judge me based on the few minutes. I also know that phone interviews are conducted as a way to screen out bad candidates. If that is the case then I don't have a chance since I didn't have too much time to talk. But I'll follow up for sure as I always do.
did you get get a chance to ask questions yourself? a good interview usually consists of actual back and forth conversation, not just them asking you questions.
I don't like phone interviews either. I had one last week. Actually, it was a conference call interview. There were six other people on the phone. I didn't think it went well. In fact, after the call I thought, "Well, I'll never hear from them again." But I did. I'm flying up to talk with them in person in about a week. The point is that you never know. Perhaps it went better than you thought.
When was the interview? This week? The holidays are the worst time to try and find a job. I know everyone here who is working this week is walking around like zombies waiting for Thanksgiving. I'm sure it's the same for hiring managers/HR folks. I don't envy you. Nothing worse than job hunting, especially during the holidays. Good luck, I hope you get something soon.
We had a nice time. The Laker game was great and we enjoyed staying in Laguna even though the people were all a bunch of stuck up douche bags. Staying on the beach was fantastic and we had a lot of great food. I was surprised at how good the food is out there. What is also nice is that it isn't all a bunch of chain restaurants. All in all we had a really cool time.
Yes. I asked "Tell me about a typical work day in this position." "How about advancing in that position / career path." and "Who will I be reporting to / will I work in a team?" those are the ones that I recall?
for this new position, i remember asking, "Why should I take this job?" after the interview, i felt it was bit arrogant. but hey, i got it.
I'd second the thought about the holidays...hence all of us sitting at work and writing on the BBS. Hopefully early Dec is better, otherwise Jan. Don't get too down, there are plenty of things to be thankful for.
Weird. Phone interviews should be handled the same as any interview, and you get to cheat on phone interviews because you can have study material right in front of you. Not sure why you freak over phone interviews, this is strange to me.
