    The point is he said it as a joke, and the reporters knew it.

    The unfortunate thing is the posters here are taking the idea and running with it.

    To be fair to the OP, there is nothing in the sina article suggesting Yao was joking when he said the coach may sit him on the bench in the future.

    The sohu article reports it was a joke by Yao, in an attempt to dispense with reporters who were pressing for the content of the meeting between Yao and Adelman.

    I said last year during the Jazz series that Yao should not play in the 4th quarter. I still say we easily win that game 7 if Deke is in the entire 4th instead of Yao. Yao was just too tired and slow to even grab a rebound. I still have nightmares about that game.

    Without Yao's 15-point 4th-quarter production, chances are the Rockets would have been blown out by the Jazz.

    On the other hand, your boy McGrady had every opportunity in the world to shatter the image of the playoff game-7 choker if he:

    1) had been sat longer on the bench by Gundy so that Yao and company could have maintained and/or increased their lead over the Jazz in middle of the 4th quarter;

    2) had not missed the free throw that would have put the Rockets ahead by 6 with 6 minutes to go;

    3) had played semi-decent defense on the perimeter to prevent the likes of AK47 from bombarding 3-pointers on the Rockets late in the 4th quarter;

    4) had grabbed one of those long bouncing defensive rebounds that were out of the reach of Yao near the end of the game;

    5) had not had a brain fart by failing to foul the Jazz in an in-bound pass when there was still a remote possibility to tie the game.

    Of course, none of the above happened. Your boy remains a 2nd-round virgin after all these years.

    :rolleyes:

    who was the dude that brought us back from 16 pts to prevent another 40+ pt blowout?

    how come we didn't sit him out so he wouldn't choke away the whole game?

    :rolleyes:
