A friend and I were discussing this issue somewhat, but with a little slant to it. We were wondering what would be the fallout if a guy like Yi Jianlin (sp?) gets in based solely on this supposed high Chinas vote...........does that affect or taint any of Yao's accomplishments here. I hope not and definitely do not believe it should, but I can hear the media and everyone taking off with that, if it were to happen............
Dictionary.com: non·plus –verb (used with object) 1. to render utterly perplexed; puzzle completely. -noun 2. a state of utter perplexity. Is Duncan nonplussed or does he really not care? Now I am nonplussed by the writing in San Antonio Express-News.
amare and duncan will split the american votes, so no majority. china will vote yao. yao wins amare 25% duncan 25% yao 50%
I think the whole all-star thing is messed up. Why Duncan at center when he plays majority of it at the 4? is that a way to screw Duncan? Or they are out there to get Yao? what's next no oversea votes? They already took Yi out which is unfair. Yao was on the voting list during his first year and scola and durant also on the list, why not Yi? I think they are trying to protect KG. They are trying to setup the Boston big 3 in the all-star, therefore by taking Yi out.
People take the all-star game too seriously. It's just a popularity contest. The real awards and accomplishments are given out and won after the season.
No direct answer to your question. But, 1. in the U.S., Yao Ming has won the paper ballots over Shaq (and Brad Miller) every single year he's been in the league. 2. Shaq actually won the online votes (which are much much smaller) the two years he went head-to-head with Yao. It was believed the proportion of online YOH*s in China was greater than that on this board. Here´s the explanation why Duncan is listed as a Center. http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/...11807.NBA_analysis_story_1118.en.234ff6e.html
On the LA TV station when the Rockets played the Lakers, they put the question up to answer by text what player would US the fans have starting at center- Yao, Amare, or Duncan? It was Duncan like 40%, then Yao 27% and Amare 23%. Duncan's coming off another championship so it'll be a little tougher for Yao to win. James Worthy said he'd go with Amare because his game's much more fitting for All-Star game entertainment with the athleticism and thunderous dunks, which I tend to agree with.
i'm pretty sure amare's been on the center vote for a couple years but it doesn't really matter. i thought yao generally wins the paper balloting so i think the chinese vote is grossly overrated. if you took the internet away yao would still be starting every game.
It is crazy to me that they list Duncan as C, and thus behind Yao, just because the 12th center on the ballot would be a crappy player. I understand that they would have to leave off more deserving forwards, but who cares if the 12th string PF is leagues ahead of the 12th string C?? That's no logic to move the best PF in the league to a position he doesn't ever really play, and has avoided at all cost most of his career? Oh well, it's the meaningless all star contest. Judging from last year, it probably will be safer to stay home than to bring your firearm to New Orleans.
Does it really matter? Yao can be All-star starters every year. But it means nothing if we don't pass first round. I can't believe somebody is still worrying about this. Let's stop our losing streak first!
