I've got a kick ass extended family and I look forward to these gatherings. We're ALL huge Texans/Rockets/Astros fans so all is well. Also, it's like a rule that we all have to consume 12 or so beers before we leave. That's kinda dope.
Well, seeing as how I have a relative who who's a regular on the BBS... The way to deal with relatives is to give them a great big hug and tell them how much you love them! Or you could just post embarrassing pictures of them on the Internet.
I don't make a distinction between relatives and family. It might be because my family is pretty small- just immediate relatives in the area. I've never met distant cousins. As far as drinking goes- it's not an option at my mom's house. No alcohol allowed. And I don't get high, so that's out. And saying I'm gay may backfire as my sister always has tons of gay guys around her. She may try to set me up, and that wouldn't go over well with my wife. Also, the only TV my mom has is antenna. I suppose I could rent some DVDs. I think I'm just going to take the high road and be nice and funny. I doubt that my sister will stick around for long- too many parties to go to.
First, I would advise you to be a better son and get your Mom a Dish. Second, I would give your sister a big hug, tell her you love her and if it weren't for the fact she has absorbed the Dallas mentality you might actually like her. Follow that up by stating that you think all Tennis players are in the closet........... Problem solved. Happy Holidays
Same here, except for the sportsfandom. Thursday: traditional turkey day w/ 50 or so people Friday: trip to Fredricksburg: women go shop; men sit at brewery, watch football & drink beer. Saturday: sunup to past sundown bbq, beer, bourbon, driving around the ranch, staring at bonfire, guitar pickin, whatever Can't wait.
I love my family, but frankly, I have more fun at my (future) in-laws. My family gatherings are great but just a little stuffy (not in a mean way) at times. Her family gatherings are big parties with a swimming pool, a couple of real arcade games, pool tables, dart boards, jukeboxes, all in their house. Oh, and LOTS of beer. We're Doing Thanksgiving with my family, but Christmas with hers. Can't wait.
