Now that both Duncan and Amare are in the Center position, can Yao still win the starting center of the West?

Not even a question. He WILL win, and some people will treat it like a travesty.

Even if China didn't vote, and it was truly based off performance, not popularity...

If votes were to go down right now, no. He hasn't played like he usually does. He'll get there though. I think he can win the starting position, but it's tough especially against Amare and Duncan. If Yao can show he can hit the mid-range more consistently, there's not much those guys give you that Yao doesn't.

If Yao keeps playing like the way he played in the Suns game (being screwed by refs notwithstanding), he doesn't deserve to be an all-star, let alone the all-star starting center for the West.

    Don't need him to.

Need him to win the championship for the Rockets.

Although important China is only secondary to Yao Ming when it comes to getting enough votes. Yao gets the most votes also in the USA for the starting Center position. :p

Well, yeah. But the ASG is about popularity before performance. Yao will be voted in to start, it's not about whether he deserves it or not, it's just about how many people punch the ballot for him.

Duncan can have First Team All-NBA. That's based on performance.

Who do the majority of people want to see playing in NO in Feb?

    Yao.

Does anyone know roughly what proportion of Yao's votes come from China? Is this documented anywhere?

Having realised that voting is being restricted to registered members of NBA.com I think that this may cause some upsets and the results could be very different to what we usually expect, especially in the number voting.
For one I will not be voting this year as I am against the restriction of registration. :p

he beat shaq in his prime in all star voting. thats like beating jordan one on one.

duncan and amare don't have nearly as many fans combined as shaq had in his prime.

    yao will start.

    Is there a questions there?

Yao is starting beause he is the best real center.

Neither one of the others are centers and people realize that.

Now does both Ducan and Amare deserve to be there?

Ducan maybe but Amare???? Who are you kidding. Let Amare play on the Rockets with our PGs and let's see his numbers. HA HA HA HA..

    Almost choked there..

yao will win the votes in a land slide.

change the question to- can Yao get the most votes for the all star game.

and you can debate about that.
