Does anyone else watch this show? For some reason, I can't get enough of it. It's on Monday nights from 7 to 9 (two episodes in a row) on A&E. Last night they had a speed-baller and an anorexic.
Yeah, entertaining show. I remember the alcoholic woman, she would be chugging liquor as she was driving. When she got to where she was going, she could barely walk. Later, her family hid her alcohol and she just went ballastic.
i have watched it a few times but it just makes me sad because i know people who are like that and they just cannot seem to get that kind of quality treatment.

Is that the lady that wouldn't go to sleep without her bottle of mouthwash? She would chug mouthwash when she ran out of alcohol. She slept with it like it was a teddy bear. She might have been the worst case I've seen on that show.
I've watched this show for a couple of years now. It's heart-wrenching. Remember the young wife who kept bags of her own vomit hidden away in zip lock bags in her closet? It is frightening the power that some of these things have over people and their lives.
Well, I don’t know if ‘entertaining’ is the right word. Personally, I don’t watch it to get my kicks and laugh at the people who are suffering. For me, it’s an excellent case study in how people’s addictions affect their lives and, more importantly, the lives of the people around them. True, watching these people hit rock bottom can be gut wrenching at times, but seeing as how the show tries to help these people, many of whom would not receive any help otherwise, I think it’s different than a show like, say Cheaters where they just exploit them. Most of the people on the show end up going to rehab (which the show pays for) and end up getting the help they need. At the end of the show, they have an update on how each person is doing. Most of them end up having happy endings. I would even argue that several of these people would be DEAD if not for the help the show gives them.
I used to really like the show, but after a while it just became too depressing to see these people hurt themselves and their loved ones the way they did. It was always nice to see the ones who turned their lives around, but it was still to depressing for me to keep watching.
Mr. Show. I also find this show 'entertaining', although too depressing to watch frequently. It definitely helps you understand the depths that addiction will drive people to, and what a powerful hold it has over them. It's one thing to think/read about it, but to see how it effects addicts on a day-to-day basis brings a new perspective on it.
I remember the one with the guy addicted to gambling. He graduated early because he was a child genius or something. He kept yelling at his parents about money. I wanted to hurt him so bad. LOL.
That one made me ill not only by watching her drink pure mouthwash, but just watching how sick the woman acted in front of her kids and family. Also, last night. What was up with the Anorexic? She was skinny but had a major bloated tummy. I changed stations during a commercial and forgot to change it back. Did she get help? Did they fix her mind? Yes, I love this show. I need to start DVRing every episode, as I somehow missed the "vomit in a bag" one. Sounds dope.
it's the african child syndrome i would think. i don't know the clinical term but it's one of those weird things where malnutrition causes you to have a belly.
Did any of you guys see the one with the young blonde stripper chick addicted to meth? (as I typed that I realized I'm describing almost all young strippers) She was crazy insane. Went to treatment, left because she was psycho and went to jail and never got help. Very depressing.
Not what I was getting at. Good response, btw. I guess I've known enough people with enough serious problems that a show like this doesn't hold much interest, but different strokes & all that. There's no doubt that it does good for some of these people/families who have most likely tried anything & everything else: how desperate do you have to be to air this kind of dirty laundry on national tv?
