I'm a big fan of new, cutting edge music- I like old stuff, but I also like to hear new and diverse music. I'd like to see what new music is out there that you guys have stumbled across this year. Two of the 'new' bands that I've really gotten into are The Silversun Pickups and Peter Bjorn & John. Apparently PB&J has been around for a while but I just discovered them recently.

    Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye

Peter, Bjorn & John - Young Folks

    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/51V1VMkuyx0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/51V1VMkuyx0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Any genre of music is welcome in this thread. I'll listen to anything from hip-hop to death metal to Texas country.

I thought that was from last year? Anyhow people seemed to be more interested in the girl in the video than the actual song when it was a minor hit.

I saw Silversun Pickups at The Fillmore in San Francisco last month. They put on an outstanding show. One of the best new bands to come out as of late. Can't wait for their follow up albumn.

Dolores O'Riordan Solo album, I know she is famous and commercial, but I liked her first solo album, sounds nice.

This year seemed like the year foreign bands made a big impact in indie rock. Canadian bands were especially strong. Also the Scandinavian countries as well. (see below)

    Other honorable mentions:

    Yeasayer

Junior Boys (I think I heard them in 2006, but great Canadian group)

The National (didn't really pay attention to their first album, but pretty much everybody knows about this band now)

The Figurines (Danish band, seems like the Scandinavian countries are really making a big impact..along with bands like Mew, Peter Bjorn and John, Moi Caprice, The Shout Out Louds, etc..)

The Chalets - This Irish band is just all out fun. Do whatever you need to to find a way to listen to them. They have some of the appeal of the B52's first two albums, but a little more dirty sexiness.

    Sea Wolf - Great band

Band of Horses- had a show in LA with sea wolf mentioned above. I listened to their album over and over.

The Rakes - Nice British semi punk band.

The Fratellis - basically a rip off of the Libertines style, but it's a good style, and I love it.(this might have been last year, I'm not sure.)

dirty projectors - caught my attention by doing a full on reworking on the black flag album 'rise above'. they remind me alot of talking heads - there is a definite west african influence in their approach. very interesting vocal harmonies too. check out about 5 minutes in, where they stroll into a mcdonalds and start performing - pretty funny. this isnt what they sound like live or on record - they are a "traditional" band in the sense of having guitar, bass, drums. i think this was done for some european show.

the good, the bad and the queen - new band, but comprised of already famous people - damon albarn from blur/gorillaz, tony allen on drums (fela kuti drummer), guitarist from the verve and paul simonon of the clash on bass.

battles - never seen anyone make music like this - loop based music, but all done live. its only 4 people, but sounds like 10. drummer from helmet is in this band. dudes are playing guitar and keyboards at the same time. a real freak-out live.

blackmoth super rainbow - psychedelic freak-out. remind me alot of air, but weirder.

animal collective - not a new band, but i never heard them till this year.
