I dont understand why everybody thinks the Rockets are lottery bound..... My take on the playoffs is we are only 3 1/2 Games back on the Denver Nuggets for the last spot in the Midwest Division.... I can't believe you people actually think the Rockets cant beat out the Denver Nuggets for the last spot. and if things go as expected we face Lakers in the First round... I smell Major upset... what do you guys think?
Denver's not in the playoffs either (they're currently ninth in the conference). The last spot is occupied by either Phoenix or Minnesota, Only eight teams go to the playoffs. And it's not the top four from each division; it's the top eight from each conference. [This message has been edited by TraJ (edited February 01, 2000).]
NOPE! Denver is currently occupying the 10th spot. Dallas is ranked 9th. The race is as follows: Minnesota 24-17 Phoenix 24-18 Dallas 19-22 Denver 17-26 Houston 17-27 So we are 6 1/2 games behind the 8th spot Phoenix. Any chance to make the playoffs? Very little! But there's always hope. Right? Let's hope that the Rockets will be on a roll, like several more 6-game winning streaks, and that they don't do something like the 3-game losing streak. Then we'll be there.
Oh! Just checked the scoreboard. Denver and Minnesota won tonight. [This message has been edited by Rocketability (edited February 01, 2000).]
My take is the Rox won't make the playoffs with more than 37 losses, 36 to be safe. So, they'll have to go 29 - 9 the rest of the way.
28 or 29 wins will ensure the Rockets to be in the playoffs? As I said, several 6-game win streak will do it. The problem is, can they be consistently putting up W's game after game? I've said that, and I'll say it more: the Rockets definitely have the ability to do it!!! As evidenced by the wins over Portland, Miami, and LA. The problem remains they are too young to be consistent. Hopeless am I? Nope! I believe in miracles. Let's see if they do good in the following few games, and we should have a pretty good idea where they will be this post season.
To get to 500, the Rocks will need to go 24-14 the rest of the way, which I think may be the upside of their possible finishes. Going 19-19 is much more probable. From here on out, I would much rather the Rockets establish some respect for their home court than making the playoffs. We should have never lost to Golden State!
We are really reaching here if we think we can make the playoffs. It is most unlikely in my opinion. I do think Dallas will fade and we will bypass them, as well as Denver. But MN and PHO are too strong and too deep to have a poor 2nd half, so poor that the Rockets catch them anyway. This, of course, is barring any injuries to key players for them as well as us. But I will pull for my Rocks night in and night out regardless!!!
I dont agree with some of your post. Right now Jason Kidd is one of his worse slumps of his career over the last 15 games i think he his shooting around 37%, Penny is just commming back, and if wasnt for some big games by Cliff, i think Denver would be in that 8th seed. I do agree that Minnesota is in the top 8, probably 5-6..But I think that Dallas,Denver, and yes Houston still have long shots at that 8th..I think if Dallas picks up Rodman, it would be more than a negative than a positive, and we have to see how Denver plays with out Mercer, I dont know if its just me, but I think Orlando got a goo deal, I know there just making cap room for either Hill, or Duncan, but man Mercer has got some skills....I would have gotten Rid of Walker instead of Mercer if I was Boston...oh well, Orlando has to be the biggest surprise thus far this season, what a job Doc.
Easy there Surf dude.... I said I thought we would catch the Nuggets and Mavs, but have a hard time catching the Suns or T'Wolves, or whomever occuppies that 8th spot. I am full aware of the current standings my friend. We are being realists here, not pessimists!
Phoenix, imo, is too deep to overtake, in any circumstance. Minnesota, however... were Garnett injured, would be in ruins. I don't think overtaking Dallas and Denver is impossible. So, our playoff hopes appear to be pinned on Garnett's health... and to be honest, I wouldn't want to reach the playoffs because of injury.
I think we should go for the playoffs. I don't want us to tank the end of the season anyway. Especially with this rumor about CB4's possible return. It would be SO great if we took it all the way and got Chuck the ring he so deserves. ------------------ Proud Cheerleader 'til we move to New Orleans 302
Well, at the rate we're going, we're getting the best of both worlds... We're beating the league's elite, (Blazers, Lakers, Heat) and we're losing to everyone else... Thus, we're set up for the lottery, but gaining experience against the best, and respect around the league... I would say that Rudy is a mastermind, but I think he's just CD's puppet... Let's just not suck... ------------------ "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain -
"I can't believe you people actually think the Rockets cant beat out the Denver Nuggets for the last spot." Umm...I can't believe you people don't know the standings and the playoff race. Whomever you all may be...next time get your facts straight before semi-ranting on the rest of us...whomever they are. Surfguy
