When will you wake up and realize Mike Bibby and Bobby Jackson didn't perfectly fit into RA's system for at least 2 years? What makes you assume RA is using Alston and James like Bibby and Jackson anyway? Do you see Rafer getting 20 shots a game? What's got to change is the attitude of fans. _ Blues
why do people keep talking about the adjustment period ? what adjustment period do you need for WIDE OPEN SHOTS ? do you think ray allen would be shooting as poorly as rafer with the same looks ? face it. rafer is just not a good player.
You can't reason with people who have already crucified Rafer. Even if he plays his role to perfection he will still, ALWAYS BE, the whipping boy for the Rockets. Every organisation needs a scapegoat. _ Blues
All the Rockets supporting cast are shooting under their career averages. Some by only 3-4%. Luther head is shooting 30% UNDER his career 3PT average. That means instead of hitting 4 out of 10, he is only hitting 1 out of 10. Thats a MAJOR difference. Rafer is about 15% under his career 3PT average. Battier is only in single digits under, but still under. Mike James is under as well. I have watched the games, this year and last year. The difference between the majority of the support cast shots is......um.....NOTHING. Under JVG they all got wide open looks from 3. Head, Alston, Battier. Under RA, they are all getting wide open looks from 3. I guess RA did something to their shooting form. Or the players dont like RA so they are missing on purpose.
That's the problem. They are the one who should be creating play for Yao and Tmac not the other way around. Why on earth would you have your superstars creating play for scrubs who can't even hit a open shot?? Rafer and MJ are suppose to assist Tmac and Yao in scoring. But team will take 1st option away by double team Tmac or Yao, that's when the PG scoring ability is a BIG factor.. Coming down the wire, would you rather have a PG who can hit jumpers and penetrate vs a PG can only shoot???
Because they aren't scrubs and can usually make shots. We have fine role players... when they are making shots. That is why we usually have Mike James in the game coming down the wire. Not every team has the luxury of having a PG who can shoot a high %, penetrate and still possess pure PG skills like bal/pacel handling and high distribution, especially not on a team with T-Mac and Yao. _ Blues
If the PG are offensively challenged, can't make play and missing shots not to mention a liability on defense then why not make some changes? Might as well play 2 on 5 basketball.
There are about 7 or 8 point guards that shoot well, dish well, play solid defense, and make plays for their team. So apparently the other 20+ teams should just not field anyone at the 1.
Apparently you fail to detect sarcasm. Our PG position is a weak link; that's all i'm saying. If you believe otherwise, then you're entitle to your opinion. I'm saying Rafer suck and that my opinion.
EXCUSES EXCUSES RA'S NEW SYSTEM BLAH BLAH Does NOT mean you have should miss open shots. Man i don't care if isaiah thomas is the coach with his own basketball system, you just don't miss frickin open shots. For those of you who actually PLAY basketball... you know as well as I do that no matter what play your coaches tell you to run, if you're open you're responsible for making a good amount of those shots. No F**cken excuses, open shots are open shots stop lieing to yourself about RA's new system. I can see bonzi and battier improving as the season go on... but not Rafer.
Yes, a career 35% 3 point shooter could not possibly improve upon his currently 20% 3 point shooting clip. And from what I can tell about the Adelman's offense line it is trying to explain WHY ALL of these shooters are below their career averages. If it was JUST Rafer Alston then some of these threads would have merit. But its ALL the supporting cast. As bad as Luther Head shot in teh series against Utah, he couldnt possibly get any worse. Well, right now he is. 10% vs 25% 3PT. Oh, I saw the sarcasm regarding the 2 on 5 comment. Rafer is bad, but right now the ONLY part of his game that is under par is his scoring. He is getting the team into the offense. He is playing average defense(not stellar, but not invisible). He is not creating turnovers. The Rockets have no player on their team that shoots better than Rafer without a big fall-off in the three other categories that PGs are in.
This is very true. Our poor shooting precentage is only magnified by the amount of points in the paint we fail to convert on. Lay ups being hammerd off the glass with no touch, up and under shots, and shots dropped over the rim instead of a dunks. You miss 100 % of the shots you dont take, so the 3's that are not falling as of yet...you take those with a grain of salt....But the team with the most points in the paint will hold the scoring advantage more times than not. IMO, if we get things rolling in the paint, the outside game will come around.
Better yet, if the things get rolling in the paint, we wont lose much ground while waiting for the outside game to come around.
That's true. But the person you quoted wasn't far from the truth either. Rafer will never ever be a good enough player for a team that is contending for a championship. Watching his shooting routine just makes me puke.
If someone begins to loose his touch, it seems the rest of the team begin to loose it too. Even consistent shooter like Yao began to miss his FTs in that ugly match.
Playing like crap is why Isiah wanted to bench Marbury and play Mardy Collins. Coaches need to make adjustments when something isn't working.
There's a difference. With Marbury, it was about lack of effort. With Rafer, he's basically doing the right things -- the shot just isn't falling. Eventually, it should start falling for him for frequently.
