Okay, it's really cool, and all but what gives? It's $299 with only an 8 GB HD, and no camera. If you splurge you can get a 16 GB version for another $100, but for $399, you might as well get the Iphone b/c, well, it's a ****ing phone and has a camera too. Problem is the Iphone only has an 8 GB drive! I'm sitting at 30 GB's of music right now and a whole bunch more GB's in photos. Somehow my "Ipod Classic" which is ****ing smaller than the Iphone/touch, and comes in 160 GB versions, can adequately handle all my ****. So why doesn't Apple drop in the larger memory HD's in the Iphone/touch? Apple, you keep this up and I'll start looking at Zunes soon.
What do you want to know? It is a new iPod with a fancy interface. I bought the 16GB one and I love it. I was going to get the Classic, but I don't need all that space. I have over 15,000 songs on my PC at home, but why would I need to carry all that with me everyday? I am only using 11GB on my Touch now. Why would anyone need 160GB of music on them at all times? Seriously. But if you need all that space, go get a classic. There will be Touches with more memory later, but not until the price of the flash memory goes down. But as I said, I like the unit. It is sweet.
160GB is quite a bit, but I know a few people who actually have filled up 3 full 30GB Ipod Videos. Thus its a nuisance to have to carry more than one Ipod on a trip.
yeah thats the reason they cost more (well beside the fact that they will release a better version soon, they like to do that) is because the classic = harddrive touch = flash memory harddrive = cheaper flash = more expensive anyone have an idea here how long though until they release the next version of the touch? maybe before christmas, or would that be too soon? Im hoping for bigger storage and for a longer battery life. From what I have read online the battery right now pretty much sucks. and one of the biggest reasons i want one is to use the wifi for when im out of the country so i dont want to have recharge Constantly.
It's not meant to be your all-inclusive music holder - they have the iPod Classic for that with the larger HD. iPod classic isn't the perfect player for video - screen is small and 4:3 ratio. iPod touch gives you a perfect handheld widescreen viewer; the downside being the screen eats more internal space and battery. To include the larger HD inside it, it'd have to be noticeably thicker. I'll probably get one at some point, but wouldn't use it as a bang around jukebox, but for watching videos on trips. Serious audiophiles will. When iTunes, Zune, etc talk about how much their player holds, it's based on a typical size and bit rate. Apple: Music capacity based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding; actual capacity varies by content. Some try to sell 96 kbps mp3 as a the bit rate to use, which is lossy and junk. Whenever I convert into mp3, I don't go below 192 kbps. Others insist on keeping their files in WAV (uncompressed) if the players don't allow for FLAC or SHN playback. Point being - those eat up 4 times as much space at least. Also, people big on the live music scene can quickly stuff their players with bootleg shows. QUICKLY. 500 MB per 3 hr show, depending on bit rate. Evan
This seems bizarre to me though. A friend of mine has both a 160 GB Classic & the Itouch. The "thickness" differential is negligible. It cannot be a physical size issue. Also, wtf did they not include the camera on the Itouch? Makes no sense! And I really don't want to have to create 57 playlists and **** with Itunes every night just so I can listen to different music at different times. I would rather have it all in one place.
First, calm down. Second, not everyone is willing to switch cell phone carriers to AT&T just to get the iPhone. Third, not everyone has 160 GB of music/photos.
I think PSPs can if you mess with them, its not really too hard. my roommate who isnt very tech savvy did it to his PSP and stores movies/shows he downloads on the memory stick duo
First: Second: My question related to the Itouch - you don't need a carrier for that. Third: That's not the point. Why build three different machines with varying capabilities. Build The Ipod Touch in HD sizes from 8-160 - w/ the camera, and then have the Iphone for people who want that capability as well. That's it. There are already nanos & micros for people with small data volumes. WTF build this great new product, and limit it to a **** size of data?
Seriously, if you are even anywhere close to considering a Touch, you need to do yourself a favor and check out the Archos 605. They make these anywhere from 4gb (with a card slot for more), to 40gb, 80gb (which is the one I have) and a 160gb model. Far better screen (higher resolution - 800x480), far more formats supported, 10 to 20 times the storage, wifi, DVR, Opera web browser, touch screen, full DVD resolution, AV out, Widgets, content portal, and more. Yeah, the Touch is the sexy new toy, but for a lot less money on the Archos, you get a lot more.
Nero, does it have a camera? You have me excited now. I have a billion Apple products but am looking to break free of Apple's stranglehold.
Creative Zen Vision:M Plays DivX, xvid, wmv, etc. You name it, it plays it. Unfortunately it's only up to 60GB now, but I love my 30GB one.
Thats because one has a small screen w/a 160 HDD and the other has a large touch-sensitive screen w/8 or 16 GB memory stick. It's a trade off. personally, I'd gladly take a bulkier iTouch if it meant real storage capacity. Even at decent compression, most 2 hr movies need half a gig in space. Evan
I got an M at Christmas last year, and my wife and I loved it so much she had to have one of her own. That thing absolutely ROCKS. It is an all-time great PMP. My daughter had been making noise about wanting one for a long time, and I figured maybe it was time to give her mine and I would maybe get a W. However, as I was looking around waiting for a good sale on the W, I noticed the Archos. For the price, nothing else out there even came close. As for the question of a built-in camera - no, it does not come with a camera built-in. However, it does have an optional accessory which they call a 'Helmet-Cam', which, I guess, they intend for people like skateboarders, or extreme sports people, or just guys who want to have an 'inside-the-eyes' view of whatever they are doing. It's nothing that interests me, but I have seen samples, and the video is good quality. I wonder about the need for a built-in camera on ANYTHING these days - the quality of camera-phones still sucks, by today's standards of digital photography at least. It certainly would not be a deal-breaker, at least for me. All I can say is, I love my 605, and I still love my M, but reluctantly gave it to my daughter. Both devices are top-notch. And I am not an 'Ipod-hater' - we have already had 3 ipods as well, but nobody is using them anymore..
