Great point, JVG has always been a true professional. All the demonizing him really have no reason to. If you have issues with his style or system, fine, but if you don't think he pour every ounce of himself into the Rockets during his stint as coach then are you are sorely overlooking his contribution for this teams future success.
did he really say that? lol...i was watchin the fsn broadcast... hes a great guy great coach great commentator...houston owes him in my opinion...im from houston btw
Wanna know something I heard from a friend of mine at a TV station? Supposedly, Isaiah Thomas still talks about JVG and that fight he had with the Heat (the one Gundy hanging on Mournings leg) and one of the theories as to why the Knicks always seem to be in a scuffle is that somehow Isaiah is pushing for "toughness" like the Knicks had in the 90's. JVG is a super cult hero around here. Still talked about all over MSG.
I spent over one hour with Van Gundy eating breakfast and discussing the team. He has very good leadership and communication skills, extremely high BB IQ and he frankly and honestly discussed the team with me. He made me feel like I was sitting in on a candid conversation between him and CD. He answered every question I had truthfully without pulling back. I took notes came back to my office and posted the conversation points and within minutes the Rockets asked Clutch to pull the thread. That one meeting turned me into a big Van Gundy supporter. I spent 30 minutes having lunch with Adelman and asked the same pointed questions and felt like I was being given a prepared statement for the media. Adelman gave me the impression of being laid back and his answers to questions were empty. Nothing wrong with that. And I really like Adelman and I have pretty big expectations of him and the team this season. I do not see any way that he is better than Van Gundy at all. Just different. I am behind him all the way. But I am going to be a Van Gundy defender even though I couldn't stand him micromanaging from the sideline. He had his faults, but he was a very good pro bb coach.
JVG is an awesome commentator, he's like Jay Z in his style and Clyde is like Soulja Boy in his style
The stats at this point in the season don't lie - Rox are at the same pace & productivity level through 10% of all games played.
Yeah JVG is great as a coach or commentator. I loved watching the game with him on the mic, a much needed break from Clyde.
I loved it last night when Van Gundy was talking about Bonzi and how he is obviously playing for a coach that he likes now was that one of the cameramen showed Francis on the bench. It was like that cameraman was trying to bait Van Gundy in talking about his relationship with Francis, LOL! Did anyone else catch that? Oh I have to agree at 100% that I love listening to Jeff as a color guy - one of the best, maybe the best color guy I have ever heard for an NBA game.
I think reality is starting to set in now. We let JVG go! We won 52 games last season! We will be fighting to stay around .500 this year. Wait and see! We all hated bonzi last year for the s#@t he pulled last season. Now RA rides in on his high horse and will praise bonzi, and possibly have him starting now that T-Mac is out, without even taking a look at Francis in a real game setting. Les bought us adelman mainly so the fans could enjoy exciting play. I think winning is more important!!! Where's the excitement?? It's time JVG!
This is not intended as a knock on Adelman, who is a top notch coach, but I would still prefer JVG on the bench coaching the current Rocket squad.
There is a bigger problem going on within the team right now. Rick knows it, the players know it, and management is fully aware. Something just isn't clicking like everyone had imagined. Perhaps it's the chemistry, the system, or maybe it's even the players themselves. I think what Rick wants to do is to just wait it out and see if time could solve the problem. But I think it's going to require a lot more than patience. This team is built on winning NOW. The fans are demanding it and management is certainly expecting to see instant results. We don't have two years to develop into a contender. We should be one this season. Right now, we're regressing into a team worse than last year. Somewhere between the Spurs game and last night's Laker's game, we took a nose dive. The defense suddenly stopped. The offense is not working and we've fallen back on feeding the ball to our two stars. Management certainly didn't want this to happen. It's the very reason Les got rid of JVG!!! And now, we're playing even worse than last year!! Imagine the irony in all of this. Playing Francis may not be the quick fix that we're looking for, but I think since TMAC will be out for a few weeks, we're desperate for any scoring options outside of Yao and maybe Bonzi. Let Francis work back into shape. We need him.
Me neither, People here need to remember the current Bonzi is a completely different bonzi then what JVG had last year. Not only was Bonzi grossly overweight last year, but mentally was never in it the whole season due to his turning down 36 million big ones. Even Bonzi admitted that much.
It's easy to say that now. We were 6-11 to start the year when JVG first had Yao and T-Mac together on the team in 2004-2005 season. Didn't we end up winning 50 games that season?
hahaha anyone watching espn.. they were making fun of him commentating the last game.. they made of that bonzi is playing with a coach he likes and they were laughing hahahahaha
They weren't making fun of him, they were complimenting him for having a good sense of humor about the situation.
