I would in a heartbeat, Tinsley plays good defense and gets his teamates the ball in a position in which they can be successful. We need a PG like that, someone to teach sharing the ball. DD
I think Tinsley looks so good because he is surrounded by tons of scorers. I mean, shooters like reggie and Jalen, and dunkers like O'neal and Harrington. He gets like 5 assists a game just passing to miller as he comes off screens. I'm not sure if we have the personel to make him as successful.
Your kidding right? Harrington, and Oneal are not really scorers without someone like Tinsley. How many assists did Travis best average last year? Tinsley is a TRUE point guard who makes people around him better. Isaih Thomas says this about Tinsley " He is so good he makes my palms sweat" I think Isiah knows a wee bit about playing the PG position. DaDakota
The reason Francis came to Houston specifically to play point guard because he didn't want to play the two. Why would we suddenly decide, especially before his contract comes up, that he would best play at a position he doesn't like? Also, wouldn't it be a tad insulting to bring in point guard and move Steve to the two saying, "Well, you're a great player but not a great point guard." ?
Jeff, Maybe, but how did they handle it with Iverson? Perhaps it is something we do AFTER he signs for the maximum extension. Ego is one thing, but I would bet he would do it if it meant the playoffs, and winning on a more consistent basis. DaDakota PS. Good point about that...the trade is not really a feasible thing, just wondering if others would like to see him as a 2 and us getting a real PG in a Rockets uni.
Actually, Iverson wanted to play the two because he wanted more shots. He didn't want to be responsible for having to get his teammates involved. Francis does. Iverson loves to run off of screens and jack up shots from all over the floor. That isn't playing to the strengths of Franchise who is much better as a penetrator and spot up shooter. Francis LOVES playing point. That was the whole reason he refused to play in Vancouver.
Thats a stupid trade at least say Kobe, Vince or Ray Allen... I watched Tinsley play and he's good but thats it he's good... If Cat was traded then say goodbye to Stevie Franchise... I don't know why we are freaking out right now... All our offense is hurt and this season is like the season Dream and Barkley got hurt... Its time for the young guys to learn... Griffin will get more minutes than before, Morris as well... Torres is playing well... I've been disappointed w/ Norris recently but its hard to play with guys that aren't Franchise...
Well I don't remember his numbers last year when Rose was injured, but during that stretch as a starter he put up some pretty impressive numbers. IMO, he should have been the pg, and Rose the sf. I think Isiah is the devil. Oh, and no, I wouldn't do that trade, although it's not as outlandish as some may believe.
I honestly do not see how bringing in another PG - any PG - would help, unless he was significantly better than Moochie and replaced him. I think that Moochie and Steve have good chemistry together, which is why Steve doesn't seem to mind playing 2 with Moochie at point. Moochie knows Steve will hit, so he will pass it to him, and opposing defenses know that, so they will double him and leave someone else open, who Mooch can pass to... And my observation is that when they're both in Steve isn't really "just a 2 guard", it's more like having two PGs for the opposing defenses to worry about. His positional designation is pretty meaningless once the ball is in enemy territory... And Steve is by no means an inadequate PG. He has shown on numerous occasions that he is capable of dishing out heavy assist numbers, and if anything he has a problem with trying to share the ball too much. It's also apparent that he has worked hard on reducing turnovers and his defense. He's trying to become that guy who knows when to share, and when to dominate himself. I think he'll get there, and when he does we'll be thankful we didn't get someone who can only do one or the other. Definitely not worth breaking up our Dynamic Duo for...
I would not take this trade but i would have taken Tinsley,Haywood and Jefferson for Griffin ( the players that we could have draftded instead of getting Griffin) .
I would rather have Tinsley and O'Neal for Francis. If our point guard position is a problem as this trade would indicate, why trade away our two guard who is playing fine?
I agree that Mobley need to be traded. He's the reason Francis is underachived (ball-hogging), the reason Anderson & Hakeem left (2guard position and "Iso" play), the reason Rockets' offense became so boring to watch and predictable. He's a good player, however, and has good trade value. I even heard the rumor that Rudy turn down a Van Exel - Mobley trade. Tinsley has skills but he play the position our franchise player is playing. imo, we should trade Mobley for an equal talaned small forward (or a big guard) and let Torres be our future 2guard. possible canidates: Odom/Miles/Q Richardson, Mike Miller, Battier, Szczerbiak, Wells, Jalen Rose, Eddie Jones, ..... my suggention is trade Mobley+Cato for Jalen Rose or Eddie Jones. Our power forward position is set w/ Griffin and K.T., so trade Taylor for a center in the upcoming summer. possibilities: 1.) Taylor + our 1st Rd. pick (#7- M. Dunleavy) for White + Was.' 1st Rd. pick (#4 - Yao Ming) 2.) Taylor for LaFrentz (S&T) we also need to re-sign Willis($2.2M cap exp), Torres($4.4M cap exp.), and maybe Walt & Brown($1M~$2M) Yao Ming, White, Willis Griffin, Thomas, Morris Rose, Williams, Rice Torres, Toronto's pick Francis, Norris, Brown if Griffin could develop into a star pf, we could be as good as the Kings.
My, my, how quickly we forget that Steve Francis is not dead!!! We already have a starting PG - one of the best in the league. He's just out for coctails right now...
100% agree! Franchise can do everything Tinsley can and only better. the only problem is Steve's best friends the Cat and Mooch are hogging the ball and Steve spent too much time just stand there to watch his best friends dribble out the clocks and then forced to shoot at the last second. Agree! but you only worry about your chemistry when you have enough talant to contend for the title. and when you have the right players at every position. (like the Kings re-signed all their FAs in the past summer.) we're rebuilding the team. That means we're still looking for the pieces of the puzzle. That's why Rudy traded Anderson for Rice. Not because Rice has better chemistry w/ our players, it's because Rudy think a 3-point shooter fits better with his system. At this point, I think Torres is a keeper and has more upside than Mobley. More than that, Torres become a FA this summer. We need to make sure he's happy to play here. I believe he's best suited at the 2 spot. As a 2guard, he's good at both end of the court. To play the 3, he might be still a good offensive player but could be overpowered at the defensive end. therefore, I believe the best situation is to trade Mobley for a Star Small Forward and re-sign Torres as our future 2 guard. If the trade can make this team a title contender I think Steve will stay to lead this team to the championship!
Hydra said: I would rather have Tinsley and O'Neal for Francis. If our point guard position is a problem as this trade would indicate, why trade away our two guard who is playing fine? I could possibly go for that. No trades for Mobley, Francis, Oscar or anyone unless we have a net gain of a big man. I still think we have the best young perimeter players in the game.
My gosh people! Have a little faith!!!! Do we have to start a "Break up the Rockets" forum? #1. Trading Mobley for Tinsley would mean losing Francis. I can't imagine a move better designed to make him angry. CD: "Uh...Steve? We just traded away your best friend - oh, and the new guy is a rookie and we're giving him your job so you have to play the two now." Steve: "Oh, that's ok. I think I just heard (Jordan/Isaiah Thomas/Phil Jackson) calling me. But I'll get right back to you on that contract extension CD. Btw, I just signed with the devil. Shandon and Hakeem told me he's a great agent." #2. Have a little faith in Griffin. He's 19 years old, for Pete's sake! Did you expect him to dominate the league? #3. Look at the positives! Oscar coming out, more time for the rookies, Kenny T learning to finish. Did any of you watch that game last night? Oh, that's right - you were too busy watching Tinsley. I know everybody misses Francis, but come on! The man is injured, not dead!
Making the trade makes sense simply because Francis is no point guard. He can play the point but he is not super point guard and I believe he is better that Mobes as an off guard. Francis needs to score 28 per game and not have to worry as much about point duties. Tinsley is clearly the real deal when we talk about a point guard.
