Since Shane has been here Kobe Bryant versus us:

    19 of 44 for 53 pts
    First game this season:
    13 for 32 for 45 pts
    Second game this season:
    11 of 23 for 30 pts

    Averages:
    37.3 pts on 40.9%

Basically it looks like he takes more shots against us because we shut down everyone else on their team, and he shoots a worse percentage as a result.

In the 4th Qut: I saw the game was on the line.. on FSN.. Clyde Drexler say
"Francis look out" I like to see Steve Francis, play he can put more ponit up" Even the Fan say to bring him out. I think the coach Rick Adelman do not want to Steve to play" So what the point on have him on the team if he do not play.

    I feel for Steve
we will see what happen in the next two game. If any of the rocktets players looking at this.. IT Time.... for Steve to play if not trade him..

Plus the last time I check NBA no B-ball is a team game everyone need to play :(

    Dont you dare!!......Internet threat! *skeered*

I don't know why you keep insisting that I am suggesting we guard Kobe with Mike James or Rafer. If you are going to put something in my mouth at least don't make it as ridiculous as that.

Kobe did not kill the Rockets today by his lonesome while Battier was sitting on the bench early on. While Battier was sitting on the bench it was the lakers TEAM that was killing the rockets. I didn't see Battier do much on Kobe when he came back. Your argument that battier sitting out early had an impact on the game because he would have limited Kobe is flawed.

Back to my point. It is a myth that Battier does a good job on Kobe. I would actually like to see Kobe's number against Battier vs Kobe against Bruce Bowen or Prince as a comparison.

If anyone on this Rockets team has the capability to make life hard on Kobe it is Tmac. He has done it on occasions when Battier kept getting burned.

Had you said, having Tmac late in game would have helped because he could have been on Kobe, now THAT would have had more merit.

Oh oh oh and about that effort thing. If you are getting 50 points dropped on you AND the effort is there, well then that just means you are not as great as everyone thinks you are.

    Thanks for making my point!

Yes I am a keyboard warrior and internet gangsta, now you are putting words in my mouth. When I made the claim that having Battier in the game during the second quarter where Kobe rained 4 consecutive jumpers over James and Alston's defense COULD (it is an opinion not a fact) have helped us you responded with personal attacks and tried to make me look like an idiot:

    Quote:
Do you have reading comprehension problems?

I just showed you a stat displayed by espn which ripped apart Shane's defense and you agree Shane does a "terriffic job defending Kobe."?!?

    *snicker*

Yes, it was Mike James in Timberwolves jersey defending Kobe last year while he was torching the Rockets. Damn! You got me there!

Does not matter if its Mike James or Battier. Kobe torches both

But but...Shane's effort is visible!!! They should only count it as 1 point not 2!!

Maybe you should have shown some courtesy and not treat people who have different opinions like you like fools, then we could have a discussion and not this ridiculous bickering.

You are entitled to your own opinion as I am entitled to mine, when I see Shane stay infront of Kobe, contest every shot he takes and making him work hard, then see Kobe drop 4 consecutive jumpers (barely-contested) over James and Alston's defense in the second quarter, my opinion that Battier sitting on the bench in the second quarter while Kobe torches us does have SOME basis is not FLAWED. It is the same as your basis that you think having T-MAC on Kobe might have changed things, that is a hypothesis that you make rahter the same as the one I have made. I agree with your hypothesis that T-MAC, when intense, is a terrific defender and is definately able to slow Kobe down and make a difference this game. I also attributed our loss to the T-Mac's injury, the loss of T-MAC's defense is included in his injury, hence I have stated that point.

Back to my point, is it that hard not to use personal attacks to discuss a point, is it that hard not to respect the opinions of another member?

    http://www.82games.com/rosenbaum3.htm

The aboved link provides one study that shows Shane Battier as a great individual defender for his position. Whether or not he does a great job on Kobe is more on our personal observations and opinions because Kobe blows up Artest and Bowen alike, however his squad does not alwas beat their squads. As long as we beat a team where the Superstar of the opposition takes 40 shots to score 50 points, I consider the defense we had on him EFFECTIVE, we OBVIOUSLY forced him enough to take that many shots, neglecting his teammates touches. Having Kobe drop 50 on you does not make you an ineffective defender. Most superstars in this league are unstoppable, the best you can do is make their lives difficult.

If you've watched Battier defend Kobe, can you honestly say Battier doesn't do a good job on him? Why is it in the first game of the season RA could not leave Battier on the bench? Because we need his defense against Kobe.

Kobe will get his because Kobe is Kobe, he will take 50% of the teams shots; But he will get it with great difficulty and usually costs his team the win. Whether T-Mac can do a better job on Kobe then Battier is speculation, unless ofcourse you have the stats (I wouldn't be surprised) to prove it. Either way, having T-Mac guard Kobe is a bad idea to begin with as you don't want T-Mac to pick up those fouls and then have him on the bench when we need his offense, Battier is the perfect man on our team to chase those star wingmen around, and yes having him around on the second quarter would PROBABLY make life tougher for Kobe demolishing us. It is in the end, a myth.

Btw, can I please have the source for your stats (the 42points 49% thing), I really want to see it. Also, if your going to show me stats to support your point, also present to me which team won the game, the stats of the game and every single statistic of every minute each defender had on Kobe Bryant.

I did not appreciate the personal attacks therefore I had to post to retaliate, if I offended you or made you think I was threatening you, I am sorry. But please do not treat other fans like idiots, it is very insulting.

Looks like your stats was false, or at least another member's information disagrees with you.

I personally think that is terrific defense, especially when we win those games.

I hated R.Alston for being a crooked shooter before I turned off the TV when the Rockets seemed out of reach. Now that I heard he had the final 3 point shot, I hate him even more. Missed FTs hurt, but the guard play should of been the difference.

And most of you all were excited with Rafer running this offense after he played well in the preseason! When will you guys ever learn?

Let's be fair with Rafer in your Rafer bashing. Before the last minutes shootings, Rafer was shooting almost 50% tonite. Totally, Rafer shoot 5/13 which is 38%. We all know Rafer cant shoot. My problem with Rafer is he keep on shooting 3. I rather see Rafer driving the lane and put up a floater/tear-drop (which also makes me cry) than seeing Rafer's 3 clanking off the rim. Besides that, Rafer is still the best PG the Rockets have. Rafer is still the best post-passer to Yao besides T-Mac

Mike James (2/10 shootings) and Luther Head (0/2) are so lost in RA's offense. Maybe they are thinking too much in the new offense and that's what affect their shootings.

Steve Francis may look lost in the offense in practices or pre-season. But I dont see any harm for SF to take Luther Head's minutes for a couple of games to see how SF does on court. Since the Rockets' guards are all sucking.

Jesus christ! Cant believe except T-Mac and Yao, everyone's FG% has a decent drop.

come on Zboy, argue with the fact, ;) don't get pissed because you realize you are a fool or other people find it out. Shane is doing good at his job and everybody knows it, if letting kobe scoring 40+ is a sin then maybe the whole Raptors team should be erased from this league, huh?

and it is obvious that when someone is shooting below his average FG%, he is either having an off night or having a tough defender against him, at this point I suppose everbody knows the difference of MJ's defense and Shane's,or, you don't?

It looks to me like Stevie pissed in Adelman's corn flakes or something because we got to see 5 minutes of Kirk freaking Snyder....

See what he's got Adelman..... With Tracy out, why the hell not? You know he can play.... Hell he would be starting for 60% of the teams out there....

I know its only been 9 games, but its time to give Francis his shot.

This boils down to Battier and Chuck being in foul trouble, and Adelman wanting a bigger body to defend Kobe Bryant. He decided that Kirk was more capable of defending Kobe than Steve. That obviously didn't work out the way he wanted, but that was the rationale.

What Steve can do last night was probably guard Fisher. I don't know if that will help us too much.
