Tracy McGrady is leading the league in scoring after 8 games, scoring 29ppg on 47% shooting.

Much was made in the offseason that the arrival of Rick Adelman in combination with another year removed from back problems would result in a rejuvenated McGrady, but the consensus was that his days of leading the league in scoring were over.

Things look different thus far. Will he make it to the finish line for a 3rd scoring title?

I doubt it since he has another superstar to defer to on his off nights or when Yao is tearing it up offensively.

Plus there are a lot of one man shows who are about as capable of scoring as McGrady that'll get more shot opportunities than him. Kobe, and Agent Zero come to mind.

As long as McGrady is shooting at a 45% clip or better all season long the Rockets are in good shape.

I doubt that McGrady will be there in the end as the rest of the offense starts to pick up. I think he'll be top 5 with Yao not that far behind.

If the Rockets are to improve on the offensive end, we'll need less scoring from T-Mac and more (efficient) scoring from the role players.

As for who'll lead the league in scoring, it will probably be Kobe. And I think Dwyane Wade probably has a better chance of leading the league in scoring than T-Mac, actually.

Doesn't matter as long as the final game of the NBA season involves the Rockets.

NO and i don't want him to. yao is getting more acclimated to the offense and his scoring should go up to 25 ppg. bonzi/james/scola/battier should improve their offense and we need them to.

rafer, i dont know, i just hope someone else steps up to give us more balance.

if u don't have a 3pt shot nor a consistent J, u have ZERO chance of leading the L in scoring. plus the fact that his shoulders will prevent him from attacking relentlessly.

Over the last 2 years, he's third in per minute scoring behind Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony. And with the rest of the Heat as anemic as ever on the offensive end, I think there's a good chance his scoring increases.

Carmelo benefits from a more up tempo pace, but with Iverson and JR Smith he may not get up enough shots.

even last yr when he was off to his best start, he avg 27ppg. and u rarely see explosions of 35ppg from wade b/c he does not have that 3pt shot nor a great perimeter game.

games where he scores alot he has to go to the line alot. i don't expect him to penetrate as much this yr or until later in the yr b/c of the shoulders.

and those injuries can be nagging if u keep penetrating the way he does.

    Not quite really.
I really don't expect McGrady to be scoring champ, rather win a playoff series.
Let Kobe,Gil',LeBron or someone else do it !

As long as Tracy doesn't TRY to get the title, I wouldn't mind seeing him win it. If he can tear it up, and the rest of the team improves as well, we'll be in good shape.

I tend to believe that his scoring will go down when the team gets more efficient, however. No worries, just win.

and u know what i don't like after 8 games besides our bad shooting from the role players:

tmac's PER through 8 games is a ridiculous 33.5 according to hollinger. kobe is a distant 2nd at 30.

w/ adelman, it has actually GONE UP. this is troubling. hopefully as we go along and others improve, tmac's PER will go down to 27-28.

yao's PER is only 25.6 so we need him to get more touches.

but still, this team remains highly dependent on tracy and it's not good.

I'm not sure where you got your numbers, but KnickerBlogger computes players' PER throughout the season.

    http://www.knickerblogger.net/stats/2008/jh_ALL_PER.htm

McGrady is #5 at 28.29 and Yao is #7 at 27.45.

The difference is that Yao's usage rate is significantly lower than last year and McGrady's usage rate is at a career high i.e. Yao is not getting fed enough.

that's where i get it. PER is great and all and our stars will have good PERs.

but i ranked the usage rate stat and tmac's # of 33.5 just pops out at me. that is TOO HIGH.

that tells u tmac still touches the ball A WHOLE LOT and is doing a WHOLE LOT of creating. we need him to do less.

You said McGrady had a 33 PER and Yao had a 25.6 PER, which isn't true. That's their usage rates. Just correcting you. Their PER are actually very close but Yao is not getting fed enough.

I understand what you mean, but if Tmac does any less (in the words of Drexler) We will be ablitorated Night in and night out"
