Hey guys. I rediscovered my PS2 last week. Ironically when I bought it I really didn't play it much. It was more a novelty sitting on my shelf. However I just finished God of War II and have to say that it was the greatest action game I have ever played. Basically I wanted to know what were some "must have" games for the PS2. Im looking for all genres: action, sports, RPG, shooter, fighter etc. It doesn't matter whether they are old or new as long as I will have a blast playing them. So what are some of your fav's and what do you guys recommend?
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is terrific. The boss battles are some of the best (and challenging) parts of the game. Thumbs way up!
Just off the top of my head: Grand Theft Auto: GTA III GTA: Vice City GTA: San Andreas (As a note on the GTA games, I'd play through them in the order I listed above. GTA III was ground-breaking, but playing that one after playing GTA:VC and/or GTA:SA would make it rather disappointing, IMO. If you're not interested in doing all that, then get GTA:SA at the very least.) God of War 1 Shadow of the Colossus Final Fantasy XII Guitar Hero (they're all loads of fun) Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Star Wars: Battlefront I & II Black The majority of those listed above are "Greatest Hits" and can be had in the $20-$25 price range. That's all I can think of at the moment.
I found this on Amazon for about $20: http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/transformersarmada/ Fun game.
Actually, if you go a place that sells used games like Gamestop, you can get most of these games for $10-15 at the very most. This is actually the best time to buy PS2 games, since there's still enough of a market to sell them, and they're cheap because the next-gen stuff has come out. Here's a list of the best selling video games. The PS2 section is pretty large so you have quite a bit to choose from. Although some of the earlier games lacks in the graphics department comared to new games like God of War 2 or GTA San Andreas. So keep that in mind. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games
guitar hero for sure if youre into rpg games like final fantasy, suikoden 3 is a must have, but i think its kind of difficult to find a copy..and kingdom hearts. seriously. i don't know what you think of it, but if you give it a chance, you just might be suprised.
That was the first game I bought with my PS2, very meh. My Picks: NFL 2K5 (still arguably the best football game out there) God of War (eh, play the original) Final Fantasy X and XII SoulCalibur 3 StreetFighter Third Strike GuiltGearX Castlevania: Lament of Innocense
Lego Star Wars Lego Star Wars II - Original Trilogy Hours of pleasingly simple, yet satisfying silliness... especially if you like SW. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/V0t7MbeKVH8&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/V0t7MbeKVH8&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Gran Turismo 4 Hot Shots Golf Time Crisis 3 Socom? If you like those type of games + the other games everyone else mentioned.
For me the cream of the crop is FF12 Dragon Warrior 8 Dark Cloud 2 Resident Evil 4 Metal Gear Solid 3 Okami Kingdom Hearts
I'm a Transformers nerd so maybe that's why I'm partial to it. I didn't know there was a Street Fighter game on PS2.
The online play was what made Socom fun. Are the servers for it still up? I was sad to see Konami pull the Metal Gear online servers.
If you liked GoWII, try the Prince of Persia series - same formula as GoW. Those are my two favorite titles/series. Assassin's Creed - oh wait... NEVERMIND
MGS 3: subsistence - if you can find a copy of this instead of the regular snake eater, pick it up. the new camera angle makes a huge difference in the experience God of War - i really enjoyed this game...the first time around. when i replayed it, it just seemed like a button smashing beat'em up. Shadow of the Colossus - absolutely magnificent. just 16 bosses, nothing in between. the colossus are beautiful and it's a thinking game. in a couple of years, it may be difficult to find this game. when you do, i think you can expect it to be pretty high in price. i think it's going to go the path of Ico. GTA series - i've played all three, but i gotta say Vice City was the most engaging. sure, the world of San Andreas was huge, but i found myself getting bored sometimes b/c you'd spend a lot of time just going back and forth. Prince of Persia - the puzzles in this game are awesome. the fighting left a little to be desired. it's a game worth picking up though.
All the Final Fantasy's are must have's. 7-9 were orginally PS1 games, and 10 was made for the PS2. Ever played MVP Baseball 05? This is a really good baseball game. All the GTA's. I used to play all the Socom's too. Can't think of anything else...
Action/Adventure Okami Okay, seriously... you need this game. If you have the gall to ask for PS2 recommendations and DON'T pick this up, I will find where you live and beat you. Maybe the prettiest game (artistically) ever made. The fighting is fun, the exploration is fun, the story is excellent, the characters are lovable, and it's even got good length. Everything about it oozes quality and screams innovation. Includes a new game+ mode, too. Shadow of the Colossus I say this is adventure, but really it kinda defies categorization. One of the very, very few truly unique game experiences in... err... a long time. If you're tired of more FPSs, RPGs, fighting games, blah blah blah... you owe it to yourself to pick this one up. The whole game is a series of SPECTACULAR boss fights... there are no lesser enemies. Don't think any other game has duplicated the scale of some of these boss fights. Oh... and it's ridiculously gorgeous, too. Dark Cloud 2 I love the cell shaded look, and this game is pretty much the king of random fun distractions. There's a novel invention system whereby you can take pictures of almost anything in the game which turn into "ideas," and you combine 3 ideas to make inventions. Plus you get to play a golf minigame after you clear a dungeon, and you get to catch and race fish. Seriously. I'm not making this up. It's like Zelda on LSD. Resident Evil 4 My brother bought this. Sat down. Played it for 11 straight hours. No bathroom breaks, no food. Just get it. Resident Evil Code: Veronica If you enjoy the more traditional (non-RE4) type Resident Evils, Code: Veronica is an excellent choice. Got everything you'd expect from a RE game. Just fun, plain and simple. Definitely played this through several times. GTA: Vice City Is San Andreas more technologically advanced? Yeah. Does San Andreas have more features? Yeah. But somehow, Vice City is just the most fun. Maybe it's the Miss Cleo cameo, or the fact that you can kill prostitutes to the sounds of Michael Jackson and Mr. Mister. What's not to love?
