get marbury..... trade rafer for another big body. if not marbury we NEED someone else because we are going nowhere with rafer as a starter.
Look, it is about improving the team. I think Marbury coming to a team where there are TWO established stars would calm down and toe the line. If not, cut him. Rafer however (I never wish injury on anyone), but man he is making it tough. DD
No. If you want to find a starting pg worse than rafer in this league, the answer is Stephon. Rafer contritbutes not much, but Stephon is an ultimate team killer.
Stephon's stats link This year Steph: 15.2 PPG 6.8 APG 40% FG% 44% 3PT FG% Rafer's stats 6.3 PPG 4.3 APG 30% FG% 21.2% 3Pt FG% Yep, I can see everyone's point, Rafer is good enough. DD
hmm I think what many of you are missing is the value of FIT vs. TALENT in this equation. Take that into consideration and the answer is painfully clear. BTW, I am a Marbury fan on somebody else's team.
Mr. Marbury will give you some very nice numbers. Every time Stephon was kicked out from the team, that team improved. 1999, he quited T-wolves. Then T-wolves got a 50 wins regular season. 2001, he quited Nets. Nest season, Nets became the Eastern champ. 2004, he quited Suns. Later, Suns ran to Western final. Now, Stephon walked out from Knicks. I predicted Knicks will earn a playoff spot this season. Rockets may use Stephon wisely. Get him and waive him immediately, so we can improve to reach 2nd round.
And how exactly does Rafer "fit"? With Yao and T-Mac, the perimiter players need to be able to hit 3pt shots at a good clip...as you heard tonight on the Memphis broadcast of the game, the Grizzlies WANTED Rafer to shoot the 3's. Now, his 3pt shooting wouldn't be so damaging if he was great at penetrating the lane, but he is poor at that as well, shooting at a very low percentage. And while he is a DECENT playmaker and keeps his TO's low, that is all offseted by his decision making as a scorer and PG that controls the tempo...he is simply not a quality starting PG. Now all of this could even be somewhat tolerable if he was great on the defensive side of the ball, but in reality he is average at best defensively. So, what does he offer? I am no saying Marbury is the answer, and I am actually opposed to it as with Francis and James on the team it would be completely pointless...but all I know is that Rafer is a horrible fit outside of being a decent entry passer to Yao. We need someone at PG who can punish the top PG's in the West on one side of the ball or both, and Rafer simply does not do that. This puts way more pressure on T-Mac and Yao than needed.
Good Reasons for Stephon Marbury: - Good offensive game for a point guard still. - Excellent handles, and can still can penetrate into the lane with the best of them. - Adequate shooter from outside. Streak shooter at times - Good passing skillings (not always results) because of his ability to break down a defense - Can shoot off the dribble or catch and shoot. - Good on pick and roll - Actually made it to the playoffs with the Knicks once Reasons against: - Pretty much can be considered league's weirdest guy - Image issues on top of that - pretty much the poster child for all things wrong with the NBA - Can dominate the ball, looks to do too much through himself - Shoot first and sometimes shoots second - Seems to have forgotten defense - Has played on some DREADFUL just pitiful teams, even worse than Francis. A player of his caliber at his position, just no excuse for it. played on 26 win team in the EAST, that a year later Jason Kidd took to the FINALS. Last year it'da been a HELL yeah (can you imagine Marbury on last year's playoff team over Rafer?). This year he'd be a slight improvement over the starter, but I think they should start in-house first with Mike James and Francis before taking on Michael Vick supporting Marbury
Reason Against: now he's trying to blackmail his coach in order to get back into the starting lineup. Awesome. This is definitely the kind of guy we want to sign. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...stephon_marbury_threatens_to_dish_info_a.html Stephon Marbury was 30,000 feet in the air on Monday when he learned that his run with the Knicks was about to crash and burn. The Daily News has learned that Marbury made his decision to return to home to New York once he was informed on the charter plane Monday afternoon that he would not be starting against the Suns. "Isiah has to start me," Marbury fumed, according to the source. "I've got so much (stuff) on Isiah and he knows it. He thinks he can (get) me. But I'll (get) him first. You have no idea what I know." It is unclear if Marbury made the same threat directly to Isiah Thomas, whose first big move as team president was trading for Marbury.
We have alredy 4 point guards on our roster,we don't need no more. And we don't have enough salary cap space and spot for him. He is similiar to Francis and has problems with him. Also has big EGO. So...Morey isn't even thinking about it.
We now need to start this poll from scratch to see if anyone here still wants this flaming lunatic. I wouldn't touch Marbury if I wearing a radioactive-resistant suit.
What a prima donna. His coach tells him that he isn't starting him and the guy goes AWOL and threatens to blackmail his coach. No wonder they call him STARbury, no thanks give me Rafer any day.
It sounds like Marbury is trying to burn his bridge down so he can get out....... It is all one big poker game. DD
It's not like they have a lack of good players in NY. In fact, I'd say that NY has arguably more talent than we do. Curry - Randolph - Lee - Crawford - Richardson, just to name a few. If Marbury can't play with them, Marbury can't play anywhere where he isn't allowed to dominate the rock. It is about improving the team, but Marbury's career has been riddled with the exact opposite of what you claim. Every single team that Marbury has been on, have improved dramatically since he left. EVERY. SINGLE. TEAM. I don't know what stats to pull out for this one, but if there's a stat for team-killing and team-cancer rating, Marbury would most likely make a Hall of Fame career out of topping the charts in NBA history. If Dennis Rodman was queer, Stephon Marbury is insane. Mark my words, when he gets released from the Knicks, no NBA team will ever pick him up again. His reputation is THAT bad. If I could trade Novak for him straight up, I wouldn't do it.
