I hate pennies, useless, annoying, time consuming. Whenver I get pennies, I tend to just remove them and drop them or throw them into a bit of shrubbery. They are quite literally economic waste. I value the penny at less than the time it takes for me to maintain them.

Due to rises in the price of copper, pennies now cost the government 1.67 cents to manufacture.

    GET RID OF THE PENNY

Couldn't agree more. If the deflated dollar means that we can get rid of the penny, something good will have come out of it.

I have a five gallon water jug filled with pennies.

I keep promising my daughter that someday soon we'll go through them and find all the wheat pennies. Ugh.

Well, I should probably do that as there are most likely enough pennies to help her start a little savings account and start learning about money and interest and stuff.

All you have to do is get rid of sales tax.

Living in Oregon now, where there is no sales tax, I clearly am collecting fewer pennies. But I'm also paying out more dollars for property and state income taxes.

Man, there's nothing more I hate than pennies! I hate the way they make your hands smell after you touch them. Furthermore, I hate having to dig for pennies when I'm making change at work. What's bad, seeing how I wait tables, is that I tend to take home a lot of spare pennies at the end of the night. It seems like I've been told that Australia or somewhere else got rid of the penny and just rounds up or down to a nickel...

I hardly ever use cash these days anyway, when you use credit card you don't give or get back changes.

No. No. No. A penny saved very often is a penny urned. Remember, without the penny, we would be nickel and dimed to death. :D

Melt it and sell it for profit.

You can't, the US MInt has officially banned melting of pennies because people actuallly started doing this and were clearing $1m per month in some cases (which, as we know, would cost the Gov't 1,670,000 to replace those useless pennies back into circulation so that the US Copper wholesale & pennymaking lobby would be satisfied).

    Pennies = CRAP

JUST SAY NO TO THE PENNY LOBBY

The nickel also costs more to make than its face value as well.

But then advertisers will have to start saying $2.00 instead of $1.99 and it won't trick consumers anymore into thinking something is cheaper! And then the economy will plummet, poor people will only be able to have 5 meals a day instead of 6, and us rich people will have to sell one of our 3 cars! It will be a DISASTER.

SAVE THE PENNY, SAVE THE FUTURE.

I used to save them, but I would never do anything with them. Now, I just throw them away.

Hmmm... last I checked I can still put 100 pennies together and make a buck.

    Why throw away money?

If not for pennies, I'd never use coinstar.
