With all the cries for Rafer to be buried on the bench, a near-silencing of Mike James acolytes, and a rush of pro-Steve threads (despite his very glaring clues that he's not going to help us)..... Where are the thoughts, supporters, detractors, and threads about the rookie that generated so much buzz this summer within the BBS? It seems as if he may get a chance when we see garbage time or more 20% shooting nights from Rafer/James. Who's excited about this? What doubts are out there? Evan
do you think GM is trying to trade STEVE FRANCIS? I hope now, this guy took a cut to come to play in houston.
Brooks is in Adelman's plan. He will play this week because there will be a lot garbage minutes this week (Vs. Spurs, Suns, Mavs...)
I say if RA's not going to give Steve minutes for whatever (probably deserved) reason, at least give Brooks 10 minutes a night to see what he can do. It feels wrong to criticize a 6-1 team, but there are so many missed opportunities now. I mean, what's the great advantage to Yao or Tracey drawing the double team if the open man is Alston? Maybe Brooks just isn't ready, as V-Span wasn't, and maybe Adelman knows that from practice. But until we actually hear something like that I'm inclined to give him a shot.
Francis did not take a paycut to play in HOU. Francis was bought out at 30 million, and no matter who he signed with, the amount would have had to be the same no matter what.
I would much rather see Brooks get minutes than Steve. Neither can play defense, but Brooks can spot up for the 3, which at times seems to be a weakness for this team. That being said, unless there's an injury it'll be garbage time only this year.
RA said that it would likely take an injury for Aaron to get playing time... sucks, but we'll have to wait before we can see.
The Rocket's starting pg must know when, where, and how to get the ball to Yao and TMac. That is his #1 responsibility. That is what Rafer is better at than the 3 others because of his experience. Brooks might get his one day, but it will probably just take some more time.
at least Brooks *tries* to stay in front of his man and honestly, does a better job than alot of folks give him credit for...his main defensive weakness seems to be when someone bigger shoots over him.
brooks did look great in pre season, but I have question about how much he contribute at this point, very small and still a rook. maybe ten minutes a game. not to replace either james or rafer.
I didn't vote in the poll because I don't really agree with any of the options, but I already know what Rafer, Mike James, and Francis can and can not do. Hopefully Brooks will develop quickly enough to get some playing time sooner than later. I've always been somewhat of a Rafer supporter mainly because we never had any better options, but he has been dreadful this year and I like James coming off the bench. I would definitely rather see Brooks on the floor than Francis.
I've been wondering why the team doesn't just send him to play in the D-League. He can work his way up and gain some experience. He hasn't played a minute yet and the team has done well in its 8-9 man rotation. Unless there's tons of injuries, he isn't going to see much action this year.
I say Aaron is in the rotation by the end of the month. Not only can he "handle the ball",but he has a myriad of talents for us to draw on. ...and there is no way we can suffer Rafer much longer.Aaron needs courttime so that he can be a major contributor come playoff time. BESIDES I HONESTLY BELIEVE RAFER WILL BE GONE FAIRLY SOON.
Honestly, how much worse than Rafer can he possibly be? He wasn't exactly good over the past couple of years, and this year he's playing even worse. I think playing Brooks over Rafer is a high reward/low risk move.
That's great to hear! Not so great for Francis, as it makes it appear that he's slow getting in shape and possibly even slower picking up the offense. Not a good sign for him. I hope Brooks can pick up a few minutes, here and there, to get some game experience.
Agree. It's hard watching Rafer out there. Brooks may make some mistakes, but he brings some things to the table that Rafer will never bring.
