Now THIS is marketing!! "The first 2,500 fans who enter Compaq Center on Saturday night to watch the Rockets and Miami Heat will receive a Lord of the Rings poster free." I can't wait. I wonder if I'll be able to snag two? Yipee. Old School
Maybe you can sell your posters for tickets to the Blazers on the 18th. Get Groovy with Greg Brady (featuring Barry Williams).
Forget "Scantily Clad Power Dancers Poster Night". It's the Lord Of The Rings posters fans will be fighting for. Old School
You got that right Ren. I plan to go to the Saturday (LOTR) game about 2 hours early - maybe I'll do the t-shirt thing too.
I think Ive figured out the key to fan participation. I have observed that there is quite a commotion...a frenzy if you will... when Turbo and clutch and the other mascot scrubs start throwing and launching cheezy t-shirts into the audience. I have attended quite a few games, but so far have not had the pleasure of grabbing one of these myself. Here is my idea...a fully automatic cheezy t- shirt launching cannon...actually several positioned at strategic points around the arena...preferrably they will be mounted on a tripod far above the crowd (if you could call a few hundred folks a crowd) I think it would put those empty luxury boxes to good use. At key points in the game...not just during time outs...they could assault the crowd with the cheezy garments. The crowd goes wild...more people start showing up because the chances of getting a free shirt are greatly improved. They might not be watching the game...but thats probably best for keeping them coming back...considering our 11 game slump. Attendance and participation problem solved!
Hey maybe they should have a "Lap Dance" night. the first 5000 fans to the game get a free lap dance after the game.
I personally find the Lord of the Rings promotion to be insulting. We have a terrible team right now and very high ticket prices, but it's as if the Rockets' marketing department thinks we'll be stupid enough to overlook all of that for some worthless posters that relate in no way to the game. The posters are worthless in the sense that they are just promotional tools that were given to the Rockets for free, but then the marketing department tries to spin them as some kind of event. It's like: "Gee, I don't really feel like paying $30 to see the Rockets down by 20 at the half, but if you're offering me a movie poster, WOW, I'll be there!" These are the sort of rubes the Rockets take their fans for. I have much respect for Rudy & CD, but the business side of the organization is mismanaged and classless.
Waive Dan Langhi and sign Sheryl Swoopes. It won't bring old Rockets fans but it will attract the rabid Comets fans (many of whom don't care about the NBA)
