Hello fellow Rockets fans! I am asking for as many of your opinions as possible, because me and a friend have been arguing about the maturation process of Yao Ming. We both agree he has been the best at the center position for the last few years. The problem is that my friend beleives Yao has been playing at this extreme aggressive level for the past few years. I beleive that he has gradually gotten more and more aggressive. What do you think fellow Rockets Fans? Thanks for your opinions!!!
I think its too early to say. He's looked more aggressive the past couple games, compared to the first 4. When healthy the last two seasons, he's been pretty aggressive.
Yao was very aggressive last year before his injury. He was soooo dominate during that stretch. I wish he can return to that form soon.
Due to the physical constriction being so big, Yao has a clear deficiency in athleticism, that is also why he is not so good in rebound. But as a whole, Yao has been doing a good job based on his diligence and patience! I respect him well!
Well, Yao's easy going personality limited his agreesiveness on the floor. In my opinion, Yao hasn't TRY to be agreesive/dominate until last year. It's obvious that he is trying to be more agreesive nowadays, but it's still a work in progress.
He has been improving every year in all aspects though as we have seem and I think under adelman yao's TO will average 4 or maybe 5 per game
Yi may kick Boozer's ass some day, not a chance in Yao's life, unless Boozer (or Sloan) is stupid enough to ask for it, see Bogut, Curry, Amare.
I like what I've seen so far from Yao. He seems to understand his role (a leader) better than before. Granted, he committed many to's in a game, but he still held his head high and was able to hit some big shots. I also noticed his shot blocking ability seems to have increased A LOT! To me, that shows he really matured. He became more focused, more aggressive and meaner. In addition, he seems a lot more comfortable in RA's system. He passes out from double team decisively. From time to time he will shoot straight up against double team. He doesn't look extremely tired at the end of the game and I think he really start to enjoy the game now. In last game with Bucks, he played some long minutes and he is doing well (except for those missed dunks). Of course, if you compare him with D Howard, Yao is not athletic at all. His way of play is not spectacular. But if you want to win a championship, he is the man every team manager want in the team. All in all, I am proud of Yao. Way to go, my man!
He is. Every time he has te ball he wants to go inside, he wants to attempt a hook or a layup. I like it cause your center should play that way. I know Yao has a great touch from the outside but I don't like it.
Yea, I hate when people use that excuse. He is easily hacked and fouled more than anyone not named Shaquille, but let someone jump into him and its a fould everytime. On another note. As good as Yao is, I can see him being a better player. With his work ethic, he may very well become HOF good. It depends on what he does in the playoffs though.
When he's agressive he's going to the rim,dunking,shooting ft's but there are nights when he just shoots and does layups. He has never been extremly agressive but as the years passed he got more and more agressive,step by step and yet he did not finish.
I agree that Yao's becoming progressively more aggressive especially the latter part of the '05/'06 season, last season (his pre-injury period), and the start of this one with the last two years having seen Yao dunk much more aggressively, with the layup seemingly not even an option in his mind. His shot blocking/attempts have always been rather aggressive which is what kept him in foul trouble from the start of his career, but IMO he's smarter about not being victimized by his aggressive tendency to try to block a great deal of shots that he has no realistic chance to alter at this point in his career. Yao's on auto-dunk mode if he gets the rock low on the block now, which he wasn't doing earlier during the 1st few years, when he often chose the layup (which I think was a cultural thing of not wanting to show up one's opponent too much). I think Yao had to shed the culturally influenced modesty where he came from to allow himself to shamelessly dunk with his newfound viciousness and this probably took a few years to break away from mentally.(hence, living up to the Bill Walton "Throw it DOWN big man!! line)... and it's a damned good thing to see develop
What I would like to see Yao do is the next time a midget point guard drives past Rafer towards the basket, I want to see Yao knock the living crap out of that player so that player will thinks twice about driving to the basket again.
