It's great seeing yao shooting 14 free throws against the Bucks. Shooting that many free throws means he was dominating. In the first few games, I wasn't impressed with how Adelman used Yao. Yao was out at the high post too often, trying to look for open teammates to pass. That made life easy for his opponents who aren't afraid of him when he's 15 feet away. IMO, he should only be at the high post 20-25% of the time, when 1. his teammates can't get him the ball when he's posting, 2. run the pick-n-roll 3. occasionally set screen for teammates for open shots 4. tired of being push and need a rest If he shoots more than 10 FT in a game, the Rockets are likely going to win the game.
I'm not that opposed to the conclusion of "Yao should be getting more FTs" but honestly it does smell like the remnants of the JVG's old times...
feeding yao in the post will always be a little tricky, simply because of his lack of quickness and such...meaning, the defense can usually adjust quicker than he can. That just puts more emphasis on timing, chemistry and accurate passes. But it is nice to see yao get to the line more. 1) it shows he is being more aggressive 2) the refs are finally calling some fouls on him. It's about time.
Good post!the same as I mentioned in a threa before, I also think YAO should banlance the time between at the hight post and the low post. After all,he is so tall so that no one can guard him when he is at the low post, and if you foul on him,he can shoot the free throws at high 80% percentage. If you want to dominate others in the centre position, the only way is to make others foul on you.And luckily,Yao's FT is much better than shaq.So we should make use of YAO's paint advantage, put him at the low post often, let others foul on him and send him on the line!
I agree with this. But at least Adelman has made a concerted effort to feed Yao in the low post and get him shots in the SA and Milwaukee games, unlike in Dallas. I too would like to see Yao's FT attempts go up and maybe they will.
