would you trade Scott/Burke/Patton for the D-Train

I would in a heartbeat but I can see how others would not want to so just trying to get a feel from other fans.

Yes. I think Dontrelle will return to his old form.

Not sure why the Marlins would have any interest in Burke.

    Scott has value.

Patton is in the second or third tier of pitching prospects in the majors.

As for giving them up for Dontrelle...I'm not a fan of his. I'd rather the Astros push for Kazmir who's rumored to be available.

I'd do it if they could include someone other than Patton. I just have a feeling that he's going to be good and we can't keep giving away pitching prospects. I like Willis and I think he's going to rebound. He'd fit in nicely as our #2. I'd prefer they traded Albers before Patton. Could have a rotation of...

    Oswalt
    Willis
    Backe
    Patton
    Wandy

    Pipe dream, I know.

why would Kazmir be avalible? He is still under club control for a while.

Patton third tier? I agree Burke does not have much value but he and Scott are not just throw in's.

Hell give them Albers as well

Hopefully that's all it would take. I like the fact that patton is on the baseball america top 100 for 2007. It overrates him way too much. IMO he doesnt look like he's gonna be the next big thing. He just looks like his max potential is an average to above average lefty pitcher who is probally a #3 starter to a good team. I dont think we have enough to get Dontrell with that package although i do think that package, maybe take out burke or keep burke and put another pitcher in there could nab us scott kasmir who is an absolute stud and would make a good #2 pitcher for our lineup. Oswalt, Kasmir, and Backe would be an awesome 1-2-3 punch. Oh yeah and if we keep wandy next year i think he is gonna have a breakout year. He's filthy when he gets that curveball down.

According to Fox Sports, Willis' stats are as follows:

    W-L ERA
    2003 14-6 3.30
    2004 10-11 4.02
    2005 22-10 2.63
    2006 12-12 3.87
    2007 10-15 5.17

    Career 68-54 3.78

Why would I want to give up three prospects who all have trade value for a 28 year old pitcher who appears to have already seen his better days.

If last season were an aberration, I could understand, but the last two seasons, he has been on a steady decline. I doubt he will reverse that trend overnight.

Dontrelle has logged some HEAVY innings, and keep in mind he's pitching in one of the most pitcher-friendly parks, and in one of the most pitcher-friendly-park divisions (Shea, Turner Field, Joe Robbie, RFK).

that being said, I'd do this trade in a second... assuming flordia would go for it.

There was an article out awhile back that said he was available.

Patton is second or third tier yes.

Lincecum, Hughes, Kennedy, Chamberlain, Buccholz, Price, Kershaw, Porcello, Andrew Miller, Gallardo, Pelfrey, Adam Miller, Hochevar, Adenhart, Niemann, McGee, Volstad, John Danks, Humberto Sanchez.

Those are names ranked higher than Patton. I didn't even include all the names from BA and also left off Homer Bailey and Matt Garza.

Patton is not the type of prospect those guys are.

exact same thoughts all around. Scared of the innings, and an injury is probably waiting at some point.. but i'd still do it.

I don't know if I'd do it or not, but I'm pretty sure the only thing anyone would have to think hard about is giving up Patton. I can't imagine that Scott and Burke, at this point, are deal-breakers for Houston in any trade for decent pitching.

Edit: But, to tie this in with the other thread, Kazmir is definitely a guy you should give up Patton for. Young, durable (so far), and already performing about as well as you could expect Patton ever to do.

of course, any and every one would... well, except the florida marlin management.

their two corner OFers last year posted .827 and .870 OPSs, and both are younger than scott; uggla posted an .805 at 2b and he's 28. so neither scott nor burke would upgrade a position.

if i'm florida, i'd ask for patton, albers and towles.

and if i'm houston, i'd absolutely positively say no to that.

d-train scares me. i love him as a player. but i'm concerned he's seen his best days.

I don't think Kazmir will be available to trade for. That article that was floating around was from the NY Post and they just like to throw rumors out there. I don't think there is anything behind it other than pure speculation on the part of the writer. However, if he is available I don't think the Astros have enough fire power to land him. If he is on the block he will be more valuable than Willis or Santana. He is one of the best young pitchers in the game in the toughest division with great stats against the Red Sox and Yankess, two of the best lineups in baseball. He and Oswalt would be ridiculous at the top of the roatation. I say get it done, obviously, if we can. Don't expect any home town discounts though, he's looking to get PAID in the next couple of years I know that for a fact.
