lbpman is right. The battery would drain very fast. The components of the tv are designed to work with 110 volts, so the low voltage would not be a good thing for the tv. The battery would probably drain too fast to cause any damage, though.
It's an intentional brownout... I wouldn't think the rectifier would work with 1.5v DC, but I'm not going to waste an RCA cable to find out. The amperage draw is way more than AAA's can handle and risks overheating, I had an old 18V Firestorm battery that I taped to a cheap0 radio shack RC car (7.6V). It was stupid fast, but welded the copper wire leads to the battery. Fun while it lasted
