    5. Houston
One of the country's fastest-growing cities, Houston has added nearly 1 million new people since 2000. Housing affordability and a strong job market seem enough to lure people from all over the country. The city has invested millions over the last five years in expanding infrastructure by adding trains, bolstering the downtown business district and funding the arts, which has helped to centralize--to an extent--the city, which has always been more famous for sprawl and oil. It also helps that on an everyday cost basis, among the cities we studied, Houston is the cheapest place to live.

Anyone else notice that the lady in the Indianapolis picture is running really close to the water?

That picture makes Indy look like it's the most pristine place on earth.

Gas is a lot cheaper here than cali. Hotels and cars are too + no state tax. I have been to bunch of places in the world and to me Houston seems real cheap.

houston is becoming more expensive, but when this housing market goes into full bust mode, it will come back down. i would have to believe its probably one of the most over built cities in america.

When I was in Hawaii, the gas was like $3.20 something...it was ridiculous!

When I lived in Indy, I lived about a block or two from where that pic was taken. Downtown Indy is pretty nice actually and the suburbs aren't bad either.
