I thought on Real Sports McNabb was out of line on his comments made right before the season started but it did not really bother me too much because I thought he was saying things he belived. Anyway, in addition to not getting ripped enough for choking that super bowl away he seems to now be getting another free pass for his crappy play with tv guys saying "it's not his fault" or "he needs more time to recover from his injury till he can regain form" McNabb imo has always been overrated and I think the media outside of Phili is softer on him because he is black. thoughts?
It's not because he's black, but because his momma does those soup commercials. It's hard to blast a guy when you know his momma and you know she might be watching.
no, it's not because he's black his team sucks, his coach is having a crisis no one is on shcaub for having a worse year overrated, 4 straight nfc conference title games, his team lost the superbowl to the patriots, the best team of this millinium, also lost to superbowl champs tampa bay, he is not what he was that's for sure
mcnabb gets a pass because he has carried that team for...how ever many years its been and has had minimal help on offense other than westbrook. They guy has to do everything for that team...and still its not enough

The offensive line isn't where it use to be, and after losing Owens, while a cancer, was a nightmare for WR. Curits and Brown just don't have those frightening skills that Owens did. It's basically, McNabb and Westbrook, but Buck is running well, and the Eagles need to seriously flip their offensive scheme and do more running than throwing. McNabb shouldn't get this much scrutiny, he's been a rockstar for a long time.

Alex Smith is in his third year and doing terribly and on ever mentions him, he plays for one of the most storied franchises in the league. some of this is probably based on race, some are a lot of other issues. to me, people talk about mcnabb an awful lot, either way, positive or negative. a lot more than the qbs I referenced and probably only less than brady and manning. so there all kinds of factors.
DonkeyMagic hit the nail on the head. McNabb has been the Eagles for his entire tenure in Philadelphia. It used to be they could surround him with mediocre talent and he could either make plays with his arm or his legs. He brought them the success they had and made them one of the elite franchises in the NFL during the early part of the decade. Due to a number of factors this is no longer true and management should have realized this and brought in better talent than they have instead of bragging about being so much under the salary cap. To call him overrated and say he is getting a free pass because he is black is complete and utter ignorance.
I hear all this criticism, but when you look at his stats, he's not having a bad year. 2000 yards, 60% completion, 7.1 y/a, 9 TD, 4 INT I think a bigger issue is his injuries. He can't seem to get over them. Plus they seem to have Kolb ready to go.

McNabb USED to get a free pass the same reason why Tiki got a free pass when he was being diruptive in the locker room. Once they open their mouths and start sondng off like T.O., you almost got the sense form some of those reporters were thinking "man I KNEW he couldn't keep that down for so long...now the TRUTH comes out" It's almost like that HBO interview was McNabb's episode of "when keeping it real goes wrong"
I think that's a sad thing. I believe they should have sat him during the first part of the year and played him eventually as the season progressed. I'm sorry but in his one appearance this season and his preseason play Kolb was unimpressive to me. Everybody is talking about McNabb not coming back to Philly next year and I can almost assure you if he does not Philly will regret it.
IMO, there D was just as good or even better some years than Brady's Pats and Westbrook was much better than the Backs New England used to have. Now I'm not saying you or anyone is claiming McNabb is as good or better than Brady but I do think he should take more blame considering he blew the super bowl and has looked like crap the last two seasons while being a top three paid QB in the NFL. Is he a top three qb? A-NO Is he a top three paid qb? A-Yes Does that + overrated =Yes Now there is no proof that he is getting a free pass because he is black but I have my suspecions due to how sensative white people have to be in this country + the way folks have been protecting that guy on tv
why would you talk about the D when you're discussing McNabb's performance?????? you're reaching and grasping for anything you can hang McNabb on.
the other poster said he had nothing around him, I'm saying he had a better RB than Brady wide out's that were just as good (during the super bowl year he had TO so better than) and their D (Phili's D) was just as good or better. IMO it came down to a higher paid McNabb vs Brady and Brady got it done while McNabb choked. McNabb is a very good player but when you make as much as he does and you start "projecting" crap about how you have to do more when your a black qb in a league where 60+% of the players are black and other than Peyton he has had the most tv time over the past 6-7 years I think he left himself open to either get praised or ripped and I'm shocked that he seems to be getting a free pass.
How did he blow the Superbowl? The Patriots were widely consdiered a superior team and favored by 7. The Eagles ended up losing by 3. McNabb threw for 350 yards w/ 3 TDs and 3 INTs. He had no running game (45 yards, 2.9 yds per arry) and again was forced to carry the entire offense. That's why he gets a pass - because he's had to carry his team over and over and earned that goodwill. It's the same reason Brett Favre got a pass the last few years or any number of other top-tier QBs get passes when they struggle.
Boy you are really stretching and reaching now. I believe McNabb was a top 3 quarterback when he signed that contract. If you argue any differently then my ignorance statement stands. Is he still a good quarterback? Obviously or you would not hear about teams like Chicago, Atlanta, and others wanting to get their hands on him. He cannot control that the contract pays him so much or that is so long. Management offered it to him he signed it and so far they have not taken any steps to scale it back. Oh yeah it was completely his fault that the Eagles lost the Super Bowl, you must be a T.O. or Cowboys fan. Played like crap the last two seasons? LOL!!! You need to check those stats again. He has gotten injured the last two seasons. His play has been good. Check my comments about the talent surrounding him.
