I think we've been over this like a hundred times. But for the benefit of the newbies I'll repeat it once again.

If Hakeem retires after this year, the Rockets still have to count his salary against their cap space. So, the organization gains very little if Hakeem retires. (They wouldn't have to pay the rest of his contract, or atleast all of it)

But, if he stays and even plays like a shadow of his former self, we'll still have a center who is better than most NBA centers in the league. He is no longer a MVP candidate, maybe he isn't even an all-star (but with injuries it's hard to tell). But, he is still a very capable center.

Dreamer, some things are more important than our precious cap space. Preserving the dignity of a legend comes to mind. Hakeem should have retired after last year.

Why after last year? I thought he played very well last year... it's no shame to average 18 and 9, with like 2.5 blocks. If he could continue at that level, I'd say he should play for another 10 years.

That said, I don't like seeing him out there anymore... he's a shadow of his former self, and I agree that he should retire now. I don't want him to be like Robert Parrish.

    TheFreak,

Well, I am a little selfish when we talk about the Dream. I am willing to watch him play for as long as he wants to play.

Dream is far more valuable than Robert Parish! I understand it is hard to watch him not play at the level he did before, but he is still a great player and very valuable.

I don't see any reason he should retire after this year. Give the guy a chance to get back into shape. He won't be able to play with the wind he had, but he can be very, very effective. This is even more important because Shaq has to delt with.

Finally, I think Dream can teach the other young players on the team a whole lot about skills and life.
